So if Cutler struggles out of the gate Sunday and the game gets out of hand a bit (say a 2 or 3 score lead by the second quarter), does Trestman go with McCown?

The only reason McCown would play is if Cutler got injured, IMO.

Pittsburgh put 38 on GB in their house and the Bears have a better O.

And the Jason Campbell led Browns put 31 on the board against the Bears.

A team with Rodgers under center will likely be able to control the clock a bit more than whatever Matt Flynn was trying to do last week.

That being said, I still think this game is a toss-up.

Jason Campbell got a pick 6 and fumble return for a TD, he only put up 17 on the Bears, and 7 of that was a last minute touchdown to Josh Gordon.

It's the running backs tearing up the bears

No he didn't. Jay Cutler threw for 6 of those Browns points directly.

What?

I guess I should have just said that s***ty ass Cleveland put up 31 against the Bears. Makes about as much sense as the Steelers putting up 38 against the Flynn led Packers. #no_relevance

Dude was implying that the Steeler offense put up 38 when they also brought back a pick 6.

And probably a bad idea to use week 16 as a good indicator into how well your team will do, especially when your team lost by 90 points in their game.

So the bad Steelers put up 31 points of offense against the bad Packers and the bad Browns put up 24 points of offense against the bad Bears. These things really don't seem to correlate much except that in order of badness (from baddest to least bad) you could easily rank these teams

Browns

Rodgers-less Packers

Steelers

Bears

with absolutely no argument from anyone. Shockingly, the least bad teams beat the more bad teams but in an unconvincing fashion you would expect when bad teams play each other. Now two of these bad teams are playing for a division but one of the bad teams might be less bad, definitely to the degree where they can compete against their bad opponent. The measure of this improvement will be who wins on Sunday.

Both of these bad teams are oddly equipped with extremely good offenses that can make them difficult outs, because in all seriousness everyone in the NFL is pretty bad this year.

Again, the Browns offense scored 17. Cutler threw a pick 6 and Bennett lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Josh Gordon's touchdown counted of course, but it was total garbage time scoring.

This season has been pretty crazy. The Bears blew the doors off the Cowboys. The Cowboys held the Eagles to 3 points earlier this season. The Eagles blew the doors off the Bears.

Very few defenses are formidable anymore, and a funny thing is that 2 of them reside in the NFC West, and the Cardinals and Rams aren't too shabby after the Seahawks and 49ers

Every year these vaunted defenses get torched by a QB who catches fire in the playoffs. The Eagles, Saints, Bears/Packers winner... they get in and suddenly their extremely dangerous because if the game devolves into a shootout you're taking Brees, Rodgers, Foles and the Bears ungodly 1-2 WR combo against whatever offense Seattle, Carolina and San Francisco can muster. When the wheels come off and everyone is just heaving that s*** the defense stops being so important.

Not necessarily saying the Bears specifically trip into the playoffs and go on some magical run, but I wont be as shocked as everyone else when Seattle gives up 30+ points in the playoffs and loses because they can't keep up.

To be fair, that Eagles O was not the same O the 'boys will be facing this Sunday. Foles didn't get established yet, not to mention he got knocked out with a concussion.

The Super Bowl last year was Joe f***in Flacco vs that same Niners team you're talking about

Rodgers, Peyton and Brees all have less rings than Eli Manning and Roethlisberger.

I just don't buy this at all. The 49ers made it last year with a defense that was crumbling without the presence of Justin Smith, while the Ravens defense was playing very well and Flacco was playing well. The Giants won it 2 years ago due to an absolutely insane pass rush that was stopping the run, accumulating sacks, and forcing turnovers. They beat the open gate that was the Patriots defense. The Packers defense played incredibly well down the stretch 3 years ago and Aaron Rodgers is still one of the best QBs of this generation.

Oh, and this doesn't include the fact that the Seahawks have one of the best offenses in the NFL. They only throw for 218 yards a game, but they rush for 146, they don't really turn the ball over (1 in 10 drives ends in a turnover), and they have good weapons offensively.

I'm not saying they will win, but saying they won't win because defense suddenly stops being important in the playoffs is ridiculous. Defense (and special teams) is the MOST important in the playoffs. Yes, you need a QB who can drive you down the field, and a running back who can chunk away some yards, but if your defense doesn't play well, you don't stand a chance.
