I dont know about that. There are a lot of key players off the books next season, like over half the team. It is gonna be a crazy offseason

Jeez. I just did some research after you said this and it looks like 7 or 8 out of the 11 starters on defense this year will be a FA. I wonder if Emery tries to shift to a 3-4 or more of a hybrid defense now that most of the cover 2 personnel will be off the books.

Yep. Emery can literally do whatever he wants after this season, take the team in whatever direction he sees fit schematically and personnel wise.

Has Washington been active for a game yet? I was really excited about him but seems like he must be pretty raw/terrible.

He has been playing. Just hasnt done anything that has stood out. I have seen a few comcast segments where they point out how he is out of position

I think those vet LBs they signed like Williams & Anderson were all one year deals. I wonder what will happen with Melton coming off his major injury.

The good news is that I believe in the offense again. The injuries will keep this team out of the playoffs but I think we are moving on the right track.

Absolutely. Make the defense competent enough and the offense will win you games.

With a competent/healthy defense they probably don't lose the 1st Detroit game nor the Washington game and they're sitting pretty at 7-2 with the Lions at 5-4.

He told Mully and Hanley early this season that he intended to keep the 4-3. His reasoning was that the 3-4 requires that big nose tackle/space eater in the middle and those types are just too hard to find.

It's early, and mock draft are never right but I've seen a few that had Nix III being available. I think he'd qualify. Perhaps the guy from Minnesota as well.

Ra'Shede Hageman from Minnesota is probably going to be a 5T in a 3-4.

Nix and McCullers are looking like the best NT coming out in this draft.

Well, he did just sign Jay Ratliff.

Although it is highly doubtful that Ratliff regains his previous form, and stays past this season

Do the Bears have any money left after Ratliff?

they probably have a little left. I just read any team that picks him up would owe him 412 K for the season and 62K per game played

I for one would be pumped to add another aging veteran playing like a shell of their former selves.

How about if that shell of a former self still can outplay Conte and Wright?
