StrangeSox
QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Dec 22, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) Right, but it's 4th down, so possession doesn't actually have to change for PIT to get the ball. They are still improving their field position. But the penalty was because it was behind the los. If we're going to flip what advancing counts as based on potential possession, then what counts as agreed of or behind the los should change too. cabiness42
But the penalty was because it was behind the los. If we're going to flip what advancing counts as based on potential possession, then what counts as agreed of or behind the los should change too. Clearly this is a very odd loophole in the rule, but once the referees missed the fact that the Steelers had gained possession, the rule was applied appropriately. On a 4th down play, the defense is not allowed to bat a loose ball forwards because it could impact whether or not possession changes.
