BTW, the word thug gets thrown around way too much to describe, and let's be real now, young black athletes. When's the last time a white athlete was called a thug? I don't recall that word being used to describe Incognito even though he was recorded threatening another person and his family with violence. Was it used against Roethlisburger? Not that I can remember. Oh but ranting on TV and being a poor sport now makes you a thug even though no real crimes were committed.

I hate bringing race into this but just read twitter, FB and YouTube and Sherman is being called a thug and much more worse things including the N word. All because he sounded like a roided up WWF wrestler for half a minute, SMH.

I ain't accussing anyone of that here, just wanted to vent on the ridiculousness of this.

Yeah, the teams themselves aren't NFP, but the league is. Gotta question why, though, because the NFL certainly seems to make itself a ton of money, at least enough to pay Goddell close to $30M.

That is between the teams and the league though.

Deservedly so, my point is that the word thug is used to describe black athletes even if they have no real criminal pasts like Sherman.

Paying execs absurd amounts of money relative to their skill sounds exactly like a NFP to me.

Super Bowl XLVIII is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 2, but the NFL put contingency plans in place to play the game any time between Friday and Monday next weekend.

A storm of massive proportions would have to be in the forecast for the league to make those contingencies a reality.

"We are embracing the weather," commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday. "Football is played in the elements."

The current forecast for Super Bowl Sunday in East Rutherford, N.J. is for a high of 40 and 30 percent chance of rain or snow. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:25 p.m. ET.

If a major storm or severe temperatures impacts the region, the game could be played anywhere from Friday, Jan. 31 to Monday, Feb. 3. But the NFL said that's a worst-case scenario with a low probability based on current weather models.

I just find it so hard to understand why the NFL thought putting the Super Bowl in an open air stadium at the beginning of February was a good idea.

Probably not to the advertisers who shelled out millions for commercials that they are expecting to air on Sunday.

They're expecting them to air during the Superbowl, but there probably would be a ratings drop if there was a last-minute change because people might say "screw it" instead of rescheduling parties.

Most of us on here don't really think about Super Bowl scheduling because we watch football regularly and are going to watch the Super Bowl whenever it is played.

However, don't forget that the Super Bowl has 2-3 times the number of viewers as an average NFL game. There are a lot of people who never watch a single game the rest of the year who watch the Super Bowl. At least some of those people aren't tuning in if it's on a Saturday. There are other things going on Saturday. Even if you scheduled it a year in advance, a Saturday Super Bowl does not get nearly the ratings of a Sunday Super Bowl, and advertising rates would have to be adjusted accordingly.

This is bulls***. You made your bed, you gotta sleep in it. If you're dumb enough to put the super bowl in cold weather, deal with the consequences. This isn't a surprise that the weather could be awful. If you wanted to control the weather, you had opportunity to do so, like you do every other year.

I hope this s*** blows up in their face. I was looking forward to a good Super Bowl, now I just hope it's miserable weather.

To some degree though you have to plan for contingencies every year I'd imagine. It's outside of hurricane season but powerful storm hitting Miami could be possible, earthquake at the Rose Bowl, dust storm in Arizona, etc.

A Super Bowl on Saturday would be sweet though.

Every year I wish they would just have the game on a Saturday night. Think of what it would do to American productivity on the following Monday!

I guess it's better than the NCAA and their Monday night championship games.

Natural disasters are something you can't plan for or expect. Cold/wind/snow in NY in February? Not a surprise. They are proactively planning around expected weather. There's your difference.

True, but you KNOW they'd never proactively move the game. They'll wait until gameday to decide to push it to a day when America is working.

I imagine they'd have to move it in advance just based on weather reports. No way you go into Sunday and then move it. I'd guess they'd move it by Thursday or Friday, or it won't move at all.
