The Ginger Kid
How the f*** does this happen to someone every spring? What an idiot. Wouldn't you try to have your visa issues ironed out say, a month or even a couple of weeks before you're expected at ST by the organization who pays your salary? GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Catcher Hector Gimenez isn't expected to be here when the White Sox open camp Tuesday. Gimenez, the leading candidate to be the team's backup catcher, will be delayed by visa issues, a team official said Monday. Gimenez, who hails from Venezuela, hit .455 with an RBI in five games for the White Sox last season after he spent most of 2012 at Triple-A Charlotte. He hit .259 with 14 homers in 99 games at Charlotte. Throughout the offseason, general manager Rick Hahn has stated the team likes how Gimenez handles a pitching staff and is comfortable with him as the team's potential backup to Tyler Flowers. Pitcher Deunte Heath is also expected to be late to camp in order to attend to the birth of his child. Pitchers and catchers report to camp and will hold their first workout on Tuesday. Position players join them on Sunday.

I worked in Mexico for a few years and needed all that paperwork. Mexico was difficult, I hear the US is way worse. It sounds easier than it is. Usually the hiring company assists with all that stuff. Since his is a renewal, there may be a regulation on how far in advance he can even apply. Then, like happened with one of my professors, the US changed a form and didn't really publicize the change. A different form was needed along with notarized documentation . . . Yeah, it's a b****.
