Here's an interesting bit of language stuff for you that I learned today: Apparently "resign" is a poor translation of the Latin, and "renounce" is the more appropriate word. Makes sense, since "resign" implies you're accountable to a person/entity above you (an earthly entity).

Anyone want to guess where the next pope is from? Do we see an African or South American pope finally?

Bernie Tafoya

Sistine Chapel doors now closed. Cardinals are in #conclave. May Jesus guide their decision. #Catholic #pope

The guy from Milan seems to be the overwhelming favorite. If it's decided in the first couple votes it's almost certainly him. If it goes beyond that, may be more likely to be somebody else.

Channel 5 news had a guy breaking down the voting like it was electoral colleges, and then gave the betting odds of regional popes.

Then he told everyone they probably shouldnt bet on it.

"The Experts" are saying that the more votes there are, the better chance that a non-conventional pope gets elected.

There was still something like 3 days of votes in 2005 and they wound up with the most conventional, traditional pope they could have selected.

The 2005 conclave was decided on the second day, the fourth ballot overall.
