QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 9, 2013 -> 06:22 PM)
If Theo is losing the baseball decision battle to Ricketts and Crane, the Cubs are going to be bad for a very long time.

Those low attendance numbers do loom large for that franchise, the Ricketts have to be looking at those.

Their opening day payroll in 2010 was $146 million, in 2012 it was $88 million, in 2013 it was just over $100 million.

The David Price Trade Watch is now underway.

Rays should be able to get quite a haul for a guy who still has a contract for 2 more seasons.

David Price told reporters Wednesday night that he expects to be traded by the Rays this offseason.

Just not to the Cubs please.

If Theo has any brains at all, he will back up the truck for Price. I don't care what is said about their system right now, odds are astronomical that any of those prospects even ends up close to Price's stratosphere.

100% correct. Javier Baez should be on the table right now.

Like I mentioned in another thread, the rumor I read was Price to the Dodgers for Joc Pederson (#43 prospect in the bigs), Corey Seagar(#47), Julio Urias(#88), and Chris Withrow who is a major league reliever.

Cubs would have the bullets to top that but is it worth it?

Kershaw, Price, Greinke, Ryu? :o

Too many lefties!!!!

I know you're kidding but what about Kershaw, Scherzer, Grienke, Ryu....

Fans that are dreaming about a David Price trade after the recent news that he's preparing himself to be moved this offseason can add another name to their wishlists, as Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that there's a "very real chance" the Tigers could trade AL Cy Young favorite Max Scherzer this winter.

Wow he is 29 and a free agent after 2014.

Iwas thinking three more years and that he was around 27.

Makes the AL Central a tad easier in 2015

Tampa will some some sort of pitching in return as that is their M.O. I suppose there is always Travis Wood

Scherzer, Hunter, and VMart all hit FA that year, the Tigers have $90 million already committed to 2015 just for 4 guys, and Doug pFister and Austin Jackson will be in their 3rd Arb years in 2015 and will probably cost $10 million+ each that year as well.

The only way they can stay out of long-term financial trouble is if their owner is willing to continue losing money.

MLBTradeRumors and CBSSports just now speculated that Scherzer could be traded in the offseason. His value will never be higher. Sure, just speculation, but would be great for us!

No way. Let the Tigers add another huge, long term, contract to their payroll.

Depends what prospects they get back. If the talk for Price is 3 top 100 prospects and a major league piece then there's no reason to think the Scherzer deal won't at least match that....If those guys pan out the Tigers could get even tougher long term.

Lets say they get that deal from the dodgers and add Pederson and Seagar to what they already have that would be pretty scary.

That would be lethal. Especially considering that Verlander, Sanchez, and Fister is already a good rotation, although obviously Scherzer makes them better. All this talk makes me angry because I'm sure we'd get more for Sale considering his age and contract.

And then suck for 5 years

Seriously, when you get elite talent, you don't get rid of it unless there is no way you are going to be able to retain it. Chris Sale, after this season, will have been a starter for 2 full seasons and will have 2 top 10 Cy Young finishes. Not even Kershaw can claim that. Sale is a stud and, since Harvey's injury, is probably the most valuable pitcher in the league.

I agree. I don't want to trade Sale, but we'd get quite the haul for him if we ever did.

The owner is willing to keep losing money, but he may die any day now.

Yeah, the Tigers and Red Sox both date to the 1900 origin of the AL. The Dodgers date to 1890 and the Cardinals to 1892.

The Cards could go back to 1882 and Dodgers 1884, really - if you want to count the American Association.
