Kyyle23
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:05 AM) Mannelly has been alright. The bottom line is that the Bears moves the meter. Waddle and Jurkovic are both former NFL players that have prominent gigs in local radio. Jarrett Payton also played in the NFL and he has a show too. I bet Mannelly is better than all of those guys. Not that it's that tough to be better than those guys. Waddle and Jurko both had prior experience before they took jobs in money shifts(midday and 1-6)(not sure about Payton but I think he had experience). My only issue is Mannelly basically went from the couch to a primetime slot. Even Mannelly said this morning he has only sat with Spiegel 3 times and had a few other guest appearances. This is like Sportscenter losing Dan Patrick and replacing him with Ray Lewis on the primetime show(not a perfect comparison, but you get the picture). It could work out, sure, but it also could be a very painful learning experience that will result in lost ratings and sponsors/advertisers. Middle Buffalo
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 07:55 AM) Jurko sucks but I like Waddle. I think my biggest problem with them (and most hosts) is that they don't follow all of the teams very closely. Waddle doesn't follow hockey, baseball or college sports. Jurko doesn't follow nba, baseball or college (sometimes watches NCAAF). So, basically it's Bears 24/7 and uninformed conjecture on the rest. At least they're not bitter like B&B, but is it too much to expect them to casually watch some of the other stuff?

I used to think other cities did the same, but they don't. I'll listen to ESPNLA or the show down in Miami or ESPNNY and none of those stations concentrate on football anywhere near the amount of Chicago Sports Radio. Heck, even in the summer, it's all pure conversation about the NFL. You'll have some guys on ESPN like Silvy or Carmen who try to steer the conversation to basketball or baseball, but in the end, it just ends up with football. maggsmaggs
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 28, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) Jurko sucks but I like Waddle. Totally agree. It is one thing to have jokes and humor, but Jurko just doesn't take anything seriously. It is so annoying. BRING BACK CARMEN AND SILVY!!!! That was the best show IMO. Had two knowledgeable hosts, both get along and the Cubs/Sox split worked.

The hosts just stake out opposite positions, and argue. That is the shtick.

He doesn't trust any of them anymore He's right though. How can you be in Sports Journalism(radio, tv, print), but not watch the 4 major sports? And I'm not saying, watch everyday all day, but you should have a pulse. Jurko makes fun of the fact that he doesn't know jack about basketball by doing his stupid basketball trivia with Carmen. You'll hear Waddle just say he loves Pete rose, he should be in the HOF, how he grew up a Reds fan, and then know nothing about the sport. In fact, my pet peeve with Waddle is when he says, "I don't know too much about the situation, but I would guess" or "It sounds to me...". If you don't know what you're talking about, learn about it if it's your craft or get out of the craft.

M&H and B&B are good about covering all of it, not sure how Spiegel and Mannelly will do but I am hoping Mannelly proves the ex player mantra wrong. It isn't nearly as bad as you guys are saying it is
Middle Buffalo
Waddle & Silvy asked Ditka about the Redskins on Thursday. Ditka's opinion on the matter didn't sound any less dumb a couple of weeks later. Old white guys should just learn to stop commenting on race. They're never able to make the point without sounding bad.

Kyyle23
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Sep 26, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) Well 2 say he's doing well, 2 say no and 2 don't care's. where is the Lyle Mouton vote? And I didnt say he isnt doing well, he just isnt doing better than I expected. I will stick with what I thought at the beginning, which is proving to me to be true: this isnt a "Training" slot. He has really bad reads, he stumbles over certain questions and talks over people, his promos are not true, it is him reading off of cards. Spiegel shouldnt have to carry the show by himself and train a partner in a midday slot. Mannelly has a really strong voice and he is friendly, in time he could be very good. I just think he should have gotten time in a slot with Lawrence to develop some more before being thrust into midday
Harry Chappas
what did Bernstein say about Gordon Wittenmeyer yesterday? Wittenmeyer told Mully and Hanley that Bernstein could kiss his ass (well butt) this morning.
Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Oct 1, 2014 -> 11:23 AM) what did Bernstein say about Gordon Wittenmeyer yesterday? Wittenmeyer told Mully and Hanley that Bernstein could kiss his ass (well butt) this morning. Bernstein called out Wittenmeyer and Telander and basically everyone at the Sun-Times for being stupid about the Cubs. Bernstein was 100% correct too. The SunTimes doesn't listen when the Cubs speak. They are like the voice of the meatball fan. Wittenmeyer wrote an article about how Kris Bryant would leave the Cubs in 6 years because he's mad that they are jerking him around. Bernstein was saying that is totally false and that Bryant is on board with the way the Cubs have handled the situation. Bernstein was asking if there were any quotes from Bryant to backup Gordon's claims and of course there aren't any. Wittenmeyer is a goof. Kyyle23
He said that Wittenmeyer made up a story out of whole cloth. Basically what it comes down to is Bernstein fully believes in Theos plan and thinks it is infallible, and he ridicules anyone that has the gall to question it. Him and Boers have been going after Wittenmeyer, Telander and Haugh pretty much every day
