That's basically what they do. Sometimes it works out and they get Michael Thompson, John Shurna or Drew Crawford. Much more often, they end up with Sterling Williams, Nick Fruendt, Jeff Ryan or Mike Cappocci. It's really hard to compete in the Big Ten when you typically only have 3 or 4 guys that belong in the league.

And Michigan definitely runs a variation of the Princeton, they play with their center up high and rely on driving/cuts. They allow a lot more improvisation because their players are actually good.

One thing I couldn't understand about NU yesterday was that zone defense they were in. I know they had some foul trouble, but if Woodbury or McCabe could make a 5 foot shot, Iowa would have won by 30. The middle of the lane was wide open every time down the floor. You would think if these guys were so smart, they would have made some sort of adjustment.

It's like the Cubs manager job. You know you will fail, but if it does work out, you'll be able to live off that the rest of your career, and it's not like he would need a national title. Make one Final Four or even Elite Eight, he probably has his choice of any open position for huge money. Collins supposedly wants the NU job. He's supposedly a great recruiter. If he could get NU to at least slighly relax their entrance requirements for some players, you can get decent quickly. The other thing to consider, the only Big 10 coach who makes less than Carmody is the Penn State coach. They probably will have to up the ante there.

I can't see that happening.

Me neither. I might be a NU student in a year or so, and I wouldn't want it that way unless it was only a little bit. I was a college athlete so I understand that everyone's grades take some hit from the time commitment, but I wouldn't want guys that would never even think to apply getting into the school. Not fair to everyone else. But if you were marginal, a close miss type applicant I don't mind your special talents getting you in.

I was thinking recently, whatever happened to him?

Agree with this. I could maaaaybe even go slightly below that. For example, Matt Lottich supposedly had a 26 on his ACT when he went to Stanford. A 26 isn't going to get you even sniffed at for regular Stanford admissions, but it shows you're fairly intelligent.

Yeah, I could go that low provided he displayed a likelihood to succeed at the school. In the end, you have to ask if this person would be able to be a good-as-normal student if he were let in and especially if he left the team.

That's true. A lot of people who can't get into Stanford or Northwestern would still be successful students at those places.

Yogi Ferrell is as good with using his left hand as I have seen in a freshman, esp for a PG.

This game feels a lot like the first game at Illinois. Indiana controlled most of the game, but let Illinois hang around and didn't put them away. Credit Illinois for not quitting and finding a way to get hot late. Let's hope that doesn't happen again!

Yogi Ferrell's also really good at making uncontested layups. f*** you could make a drinking game out of it. Here's the lane, why don't you take it.

Rex I see nothing that leads me to believe we can actually get back in this, unless we make 2-3 3's in a row or something. To me, this doesn't have the same feel.

Keep feeding McLaurin, he's much stronger than Zeller.

I actually think this is why Zeller won't do too well at the next level. His game is too predicated on the fast break and not so much in the half-court offense or defense.

Eh, if his midrange game is as good as I think it can be, he'll be fine.

LOL, I was being more general in nature. He's smooth using the left hand and that's not something a lot of kids can do well, open layup or not. I'm not sure I agree with you on the feel. I think the only difference is the game isn't in Champaign. Maybe that's enough. But if Illinois can hit 2 or 3's in a row, the momentum could swing quickly. I'd be much more comfortable if we were up 18-20 right now. A 10-12 point lead scares me because I think this team goes on cruise control sometimes. I'm hoping they learned from the last Illinois game.

I wasn't trying to take away from him, he's had some good finishes, we just keep letting him have open ones too.

I understand your frustration. I was also about to say I told you so until Illinois missed those two 3's. Still too close with too much time left.

We needed one of those to drop. We've cut it to 10 about 78 times this half.

You and I both know you get it to 5-6 and IU could get tight again...but we can't get it there.
