Big 10 Tournament Thread

Well it isn't like we have a post threat (in fact throwing the ball inside to our big men is a terrible idea and I would flat out ignore them if I was a guard) and only Abrams and Paul can break someone down off the dribble on even a semi-consistent basis and neither is great at it. Not a ton of offensive options on this team other than to take and hope to make a lot of threes. I just hope that in the tourney against teams that don't have Illinois as well scouted they can have a couple of hot shooting games and maybe make the second weekend.

It was more that they seemed to be forcing 3s (especially long ones) when they could have tried to move the ball a little more to get more open shots. Basically whenever it hit 10 points, that possession they shot a quick 3 in an attempt to get the game close.

Think about what a blowout this would be if Indiana actually had a decent coach. :o

I thought my Purdue loyalty shaded my judgment on this. IU is easily one of the most talented teams in the country, but will Crean keep them from winning a National Title? To me it seems like he is a good recruiter but I am not sure about actual game tactician.

IMO I am always more in favor of trying to use defense to reel in the other team instead of 3's but I think Groce is of the other school.

Wrong. If you play the early night game, it's over at 7:30. That's 6.5 hours extra rest in a tournament where you are trying to win 3 games in 3 days. Yes it's 2 hours compared to your opponent. Generally tournaments give #1 seeds the most rest as it is an advantage.

Um I meant Indiana gets 2 more hours of rest than Wisconsin/Michigan.

I personally hate the morning games in tournaments. I always preferred late games, even if that meant that I got less rest the next day. Rest doesnt matter if you get upset at 11 am.

Well you have to play one side of the bracket in the morning and one at night. In a year like this sure the 4/5 is the best...might not always be the prime time match you'd want, plus the 1/8 is probably a blowout most of the time.

You're also playing an opponent this morning that played at 11am yesterday. Illinois for sure would have loved to play at 8pm tonight.

I may have gotten back from the gym at 12:03 EST for some reason.

Thats awesome. Sometimes you gotta plan ahead.

Football season is worse. We have family weddings that have gotten moved because the game got picked up on prime time.

Right which is why it makes sense to inverse the order, so that Illinois game was last night. And thus the night games today are the potential 4/5 (usually best game) and then 1/8 (has the top seed)

When I was playing in my college baseball team's conference tourney, we got mired in a 7 hour, 21 inning marathon game as the 6PM game. We won and had to play the winner of the NEXT game which started after 1AM the next morning. Great tourney setup, lol, but a lot of fun in the end. The team that played till past 3AM still beat us the next day too btw.

Same thing applies. 5/12 matchup is there too.

It's hard to say doing it either way is the "right" way to do it. You could have a terrible 1/8 primetime game in there too, which I imagine most times it is. I just don't see the big deal about order they play in, I think it's only coming up because Wisconsin plays right now. No one's really all jacked up to schedule a tournament around the 4/5 game most years.

There is the flaw in your family. In the South, the football schedule is reviewed before fall weddings are scheduled. Typically only done days of bye weeks, road games or cream puffs. Every once in awhile someone screws up and attendance is low. lol

Thats generally the goal, the bye week. IN this case it was taken and she planned a night time wedding only to have the game moved to 8pm. They then had a day time wedding and had tv's in the reception.

People who schedule fall weddings are assholes.
