IlliniKrush
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 10:27 PM) They blew 4 games against top big ten teams that they should have won. They didn't. They are moving in the right direction and would have been worthy of a birth. They are doing a nice job in the NIT and had a big road win against Virginia today (ending their long home winning streak). Point still stands, their non-conf killed them, if it was better they would have been in even with the same BT results.
caulfield12
The Cavaliers, who finished the season 23-12, brought a 19-game home-court winning streak into the game. Snap, crackle, pop. Virginia went 9-0 at home against Atlantic Coast Conference teams this season. Coach Tony Bennett’s team was fourth nationally in scoring defense at 57.2 points per game. Duke scored 68 in a loss to the Cavaliers. No other ACC team scored more than 55. Iowa torched those numbers, shooting 49.1 percent from the field and making all 15 of its free-throw attempts. The last 14 came in the final 3 minutes and 9 seconds, which showed maturity from a team that had struggled in the final minutes of several Big Ten road games. “Guys made free throws, guys made passes,” said McCaffery, whose team was 2-8 on the road before Wednesday. “We never panicked.” Iowa’s 24th victory puts this team, two seasons removed from an 11-20 record, tied for third with the 1987-88 team for most single-season victories in school history. Only the 2005-06 team, with 25, and the 1986-87 team, with 30, have more. hawkcentral.com Edited March 28, 2013 by caulfield12
Brian
I know its NIT, but Iowa showing they could have been in NCAA over other at large teams. I'm not up on some of the mid major conference tourney champs so can't really name which ones.

Not talking about resume. Just watching them now, they are better than teams that got in. I understand why they didnt get in.

LittleHurt05
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 27, 2013 -> 06:59 PM) Way to go Iowa! (Have them winning it all in my NIT pool. Also had Providence, Tennessee, & Maryland going to NY) Lets go Hawkeyes!! (makes me sick to my stomach to say that)
zenryan
Just about every team that makes it to the finals of the NIT are better right now than some of the at-large teams that made the tournament. And next year you can say the same thing.
Chisoxfn
QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 05:15 PM) Wrong. It was never about if they are good enough, it was about their resume. Somehow having the record they did in conference play (in the best conference in the league) should have been worth something. Out of conference might have sucked but they won out of conference and then did a good job in a tough conference. They should have sealed the deal by not blowing some of the close games that they did though.
IlliniKrush
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) Somehow having the record they did in conference play (in the best conference in the league) should have been worth something. Out of conference might have sucked but they won out of conference and then did a good job in a tough conference. They should have sealed the deal by not blowing some of the close games that they did though. It was worth something, they were at least in discussion for the bubble. But not everyone played the same BT schedule (or beat the same opponents), so you can't look at every BT record the same. Didn't have a lot of big wins, even in conference, didn't play anyone out of conference.
