Ha, no, WAR is a cumulative statistic. While that home run technically won the game, he was 0-3 prior to that. Had he done more in those previous ABs, his home run would not have been necessary otherwise and thus, he actually hurt the team in the process. Viciedo has actually been one of the 3 worst players for the Sox early on along with Konerko and Keppinger. Rios and Ramirez have been the most valuable with Flowers a close 3rd.

So where does throwing out Smoak going for a double fit in since it was followed up by another double thus saving a run ?

And people were freaking out because Axelrod was scheduled to face Felix.

There's really no need to discuss matchups the rest of the year.

We won a game in with Axe was matched against Money Man King Felix.

So why would anybody worry about individual pitching matchups the rest of the year? It's baseball. Anything can happen.

That was exciting Tank put an end to the game with one swing. Man, our Sox hit a lot of home runs on that first homestand. Wow.When the weather heats up, maybe Paulie will start launching some as well.

I missed the play itself, but that would be added to his fielding value. It would really only have an incremental value, but it would help.

If it helps people feel a bit better, because of the timing of his hit, he did have a .35 WPA - winning percentage added - which is a very raw indicator of how much a player helps his team win. Had his home run come in the first or second inning, you'd only be looking at a WPA of about .04, if not less.

If nothing else, Viciedo has had a propensity to hit in the clutch. He hit a 3-run bomb against Robertson in New York last year in the 9th inning to put the Sox up 1 too. That was awesome.
