Konerko / Dunn

Adam Dunn is certainly back to his horrible 2010 ways with a batting average below .200 and a major drop-off in walks from last year. I totally agree that he should be moved down in the lineup. And whatever he's doing to lower his walk total -- by being more aggressive at the plate -- isn't upping his contact rate or his hits rate. So he should just go back to being a HR/walk guy with a decent OBP. At least that way he'll make fewer outs.

But the problem is not limited to Adam Dunn.

The Sox have multiple guys with all-or-nothing approaches. Dayan Viciedo and Tyler Flowers, for example. And so far, Jeff Keppinger has been stinking it up as well.

Why not field a lineup with all the contact guys at the top, and the thumpers at the bottom?

DeAza

Gillaspie

Rios

Konerko

Ramirez

Keppinger

Dunn

Viciedo

Flowers

Why not reward players who are actually hitting the baseball with higher positioning in the ilneup, and demote those who are stinking it up? If they start hitting the ball, they can move up. Lefty-righty is less important than hitting/not hitting.

And these are the types of overreactions that I love this early in the year. 12 games have been played and VAFan already knows the exact problems with this team so as to fix them for the rest of the season. Also, Gillaspie's hitting 2nd based off of 27 plate appearances. In a week's worth of time, he could be down to .275, and in 2 weeks he could be back to .220 and nobody would know the difference.

I do like how Tyler Flowers and his .674 OPS hits last while Konerko and his .697 OPS gets to hit cleanup. And please don't cite career history - Konerko hit .263/.333/.437/.771 in the second half last year. That's not cleanup worthy.

I have no problem with the lineup today. But before drastic changes are made, how about we let them play a few games?

Paulie batting cleanup, Dunn 5th in the lineup.

Thanks Robin.

I think that's the lineup Robin has vs lefties to begin with...

I don't think Dunn's going to hit 5th vs. righties. Hopefully he does.

Okay I just put on some acid washed jeans 2 sizes too small, I got moose in my hair (not that oine god rest his soul as we remind all of our friends with coins and thank them for tgheir service) and my shirt is very tight also. And my shirt contains lots of bright colors. Okay so the cassette tape is in the boombox and now I'm going to crank the volume, and so here's my "Livin' On A Prayer" thought of the day: maybe Adam Dunn is playing all this field stuff recently to increase his trade value so that the Sox can dump him. I know he's not going to bring anything back in return but ATM he's our Soriano & the roster space is probably worth more to us than anything. I would expect little salary relief (very little) but I hope it's true. It's my thought anyway. Tghoughts on my thought? I hope it works out & Hahn can dump this guy soon. Also I'm not down on the year at all or anything, I just want this guy gone really bad.
