Explosions at end of Boston Marathon

NY Post might not be the beacon of respectable journalism, but they're not Steve from Soxtalk either (ba doom ching). If they've got a credible source there's got to be something there. But who knows, they could be full of it too.

 

Edit: and the Post report says "authorities," which could be the FBI.

Well yea, two of them shared the same date on purpose (Waco and OKC).

 

I will say this, its sad that this happened but people just seem so desperate for something to be scared of or to be sad about. Two people are dead. That's about the same number of Americans that died in ways completely unrelated to this bombing in the time it took me to write this post. We cant get worked up over it. This isn't 9/11, this isn't Oklahoma City, this is not some overwhelming tragedy that should grip the nation the way it is right now.

 

Our lives really are short and fragile, s*** like this kinda goes to prove it, so why do we ruin them being afraid of things that have an almost 0% chance of affecting us directly? I dont know. I dont get it.

 

Hope the injured people wind up OK and they catch the guy who did it.

Yeah, I'd imagine the first thing on my mind would be "secondary bombs" especially since there was a 10s delay between them.

If two teenagers wrapped a V6 Mustang around a tree and got themselves killed it wouldn't get this attention, if two 10 year olds in the cancer ward passed on the same day it wouldn't even make the news. But a couple bombs go off with similar results and we cant help but be enamored by it.

 

I generally wouldn't care about people's reaction to this, but I think it carries a price to immerse yourself so much in these stories. We get scared and we want something to be done to make us feel more secure. So because the first two Americans to be killed by a bomb in this country since I-dont-even-know-its-been-so-long an entire city is on lockdown and people have found a whole new reason to be scared to live their lives.

 

That's really all I wanted to say, I think someone should say it.

Neither one of those scenarios was designed by someone with the intent to hurt or kill innocent people. Theres your difference.

I understand what you're saying and made the same comment to my secretary - 4 people were shot and killed over the weekend in Chicago and no one thinks twice, yet we're glued to the TV/computer over this story.

 

But still, you have to recognize that this is something entirely different. It's not a simple crime. It's a premeditated terrorist attack that happened in a big public space in broad daylight. It's movie-villian type s*** that you just don't see on a routine basis. It's someone killing random strangers for sport. In that respect it's different, it's noteworthy, and it's much more tragic.

There's no reason to say this. Those two events, though they may yield the same amount of deaths (we don't know yet) are completely unrelatable.

According to an NPR count of patients at area hospitals, at least 60 people were injured. NPR reports:

 

— "Brigham and Womens' Hospital has received 18 to 20 patients, with 2 in critical condition."

 

— "Boston Medical Center has received 20 patients, including 2 children, all from the Marathon bombs. Most of these patients have lower-leg injuries, according to a hospital spokesperson. They don't have anything yet about condition of injured."
