Who do you think the Sox should try and get since Trader Ken isn't done yet.

This is only if Cotts falters again in the Majors.

This is the list of starters that have cleared waivers and can be traded.

Cleared and tradeable

Pitchers

Livan Hernandez

John Thomson

Freddy Garcia

Brian Anderson

Sterling Hitchcock

Pat Hentgen

Andy Ashby

Aaron Sele

Danny Graves

I kinda like Brian Anderson..playoff experience, probably won't cost as much as Livan.

I'd say Freddy Garcia if we could figure out what happened to him. He is by far the biggest upside of anyone on that list.

I'd take Livan or Freddy Garcia. For Livan you wouldn't have to give up much, but the Sox would take on a huge salary next year and I don't think they can tie themselves up anymore. In Garcia, you'd have to think the Mariners, a team in competition, would want quality for him. So unless we could get him in a Koch for Garcia swap, I don't see it happenning.

Jon Rauch has been tearing it up at Charlotte recently. I wouldn't mind seeing him given a chance when he gets called up in September.

Of the list provided, just based on baseball talent, Livan Hernandez is unquestionably the best, especially if you're looking for a guy with postseason experience. Big ass salary, though. That, and he'd be an NL pitcher coming here and they don't have the best track record of success (see Navarro, Jaime; Ritchie, Todd; and White, Rick as references).

Speaking of Big Jon, what is the deal lately? Is his velocity back, or his breaking stuff on again or what? He has been great lately.

If you sit down with the schedule and look at our rotation, counting tonight, we will need the fifth starter at least 6 more times, and that's by using the offdays to skip the 5th spot. We can use the offdays to keep the 5th spot from facing NY and Minny, but it looks to me that we're gonna need him for Det next weekend, Cleveland the follwing Saturday, Boston on the 14th, and then KC on the 21st and 25th.

So don't think we can skate by with just the big four. Here's hoping Cotts can step up.

6 more times? I'll have to check that for myself...

That seems about right if you're not going to sacrfice the front 3 on 3 days rest 1 time.

I think Cotts can carry the load.

In his last start vs TEX he lasted nearly 6in, & gave up 2 BB w 6K's.

He gave up 4er, 3 of them in the 3rd. The dreaded leadoff BB.

The 4th was courtesy of A-ROD belting a HR.

Like Garland, he needs to stay away from the big inning.

And let's not forget that the game Cotts imploded in ANA Wright came on & pitched 5 solid innings giving up just 1 er. Again, a dreaded BB played a role.

Last time I checked MTL and SEA were both in playoff races....so why would they trade away ANYONE.... let alone pitchers who've been known to be quite good when they get it together.

just a feeling.... I think the team is set.

i have that same feeling........ ;)

When I was down there I heard he had no stuff back at that point. But that could of changed. Up until about two weeks ago Aaron Sele had no stuff and then all of a sudden his velocity jumped 7 MPH (Happened to be the game we played him).

Guys take time coming back from an injury and I've noticed some really good starts out of him since I got back, so maybe he's gotten healthy. Either way, this will be 2 years. One full year in the minors so next year is when he should break out. After that I'd say his odds aren't good. He'll be a callup though.

even if Cotts gets murdered, which i dont think is really going to happen, i think they could do something were its almost a split, where danny does 3 or 4 innings, then give it over to Cotts for 2-3 innings, and hope to come out ok? Whould that work? Give them both 2 days off after that.

If you look at the way JM's using Wright I think that's the thinking.

A quick hook for Cotts early on with Wright as the pseudo starter.

This is really a manager's dream for a 5th starter (next to what the NYY have that is).

Wright lost the job & knows that a great job in long relief will help him get it back.

Cotts knows that Wright wants his job back & he better not slip up if he aims to keep it.

Maximum competition betw them.

Cotts looked good today. He seems unfazed by what he gives up. I think the kid is gonna turn into a big time pitcher, one who excels in the BIG games.

The guy just looks like nothing fazes him and he's calm no matter what.

Hopefully in a bit we can congratulate ya on your first career major league win NEAL :cheers

Serious shoulder injuries like Jon had take about 2 years to recover from. IA lot of people say that shoulder surgery takes longer to recover from than Tommy John surgery does now.

I am anxious if anyone else has heard how Jon's pitches look right now.
