caulfield12
Cue same article in 2001, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, etc. Really, the guy has no choice what to say if he's going to keep his job. It's not like he can tout any of our minor leaguers coming up and making much of a difference, so it's logical enough to say when Beckham/Danks/Viciedo/Keppinger and Floyd are back, they should be a much more competitive team. It's logical to at least believe that Dunn and Konerko will be better than what they've shown. With Flowers, it's more of what you see is what you get... The main problem with this "patience" line is that this is Ventura's SECOND year now. He should have learned something from last year. When you are outgunned from a talent standpoint, sheerly from a comparison of the starting line-ups on a daily basis...then you have to make up for it somehow with execution, hitting the cutoff man, limiting the opposing team's running game, hitting with RISP, advancing runners, bunting, errors across the field (going from 1st in defense to near the bottom), etc. We've been horrible in almost any "eye test" category you could make up, and surely the SABR numbers back that up. That said....how much of it is just a matter of lacking talent or just not being very good vs. lack of preparation/execution/mental mistakes? caulfield12
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 29, 2013 -> 04:25 PM) Glad to see that he has a newspaper that will give him column inches for a cheerleading/puff column. Wonder if the White Sox have to pay for that or not? Or do advertising with the Daily Herald, kind of a quid pro quo.

That's why I don't quite understand the borderline hostility often thrown his way. How can it be expected of him to say ¡¡ROAR DIS TEAM SUX TAER IT DOWN!!!11one!!1eleventy!1 if that's not the message the top wants to promote? If someone turns in an inexcusable performance, he'll usually say it. He won't burn them down like some would like to hear, but what can you expect- Doug Buffone and Ed O'Bradovich? People have lost their jobs for doing just that in this very city. If I didn't listen to the pre/post and instead relied on a message board to draw conclusions, I'd probably think that this guy would apologize for the iceberg that sank the Titanic. Throw in some of the mouth-breathers that sadly own a telephone and undoubtedly have 670 on speed dial...

But he'd do it in a somewhat holier than thou, i know better or more than you way...which would both apologize for the iceberg but also not take responsibility or hold himself accountable in any way, lol. Actually, it would be pretty hilarious if Rongey tried to pull an Ozzie and WANTED to take the blame and fall on his own sword, just to pacify those mouth breathers and drunks calling in to rant about the Rafael Palmeiro trade by the Cubs (we can get any superstar in baseball if we just package 5-7 random minor leaguers) or asking to promote Courtney Hawkins. Andrew
Why would anyone listen to Rongey? Game is over - what does he EVER say that isn't either obvious (you can look up yourself) or bulls*** excuses, (i.e. the company line)? He's useless. GreatScott82
If there has been one thing that i've learned so far in the 2013 season- it is that our lack of farm depth has finally caught up to bite us in the rear. With all the injuries to Beckham, Viciedo, Floyd and Keppinger- there really hasn't been anyone to plug into those positions with exception of Gillapsie to help us compete. Wise is terrible, Jordan Danks is not that good, Greene does not belong in the bigs and Axelrod is a legitimate 6th starter/ long reliever at best. It appears as if it will be one of those injury-riddled type seasons. Unfortunately, our farm is just too weak to overcome something like this. So yes... Ranger is right...this team will need to be patient...very very very patient before they are competitive again. It appears as if it will be one of those injury-riddled type seasons. Unfortunately, our farm is just too weak to overcome something like this. Tyler Greene has an .855 OPS in 21 plate appearances. Dylan Axelrod has a 3.95 ERA in 21.1 IP, 5 starts. Viciedo wasn't lighting it up before he went down, Keppinger has been absolutely brutal, Konerko has an OPS of .700, Flowers has struggled, De Aza and Dunn have been all around bad - Alexei (sort of), Gillaspie, and Rios are legitimately the only offensive players playing worth a damn. I'm leaving the pitching staff out of this - they've been, generally speaking, fine. That league worst offense needs to improve or it won't matter how good the pitching staff is.
