caulfield12
QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2013 -> 06:09 PM) Sean Coyle's had a fantastic season so far for Salem. Who's our best starting pitcher after Beck at Winston-Salem and Kanny? Haven't been following the Intimidators much this year.
ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2013 -> 08:12 PM) Who's our best starting pitcher after Beck at Winston-Salem and Kanny? Haven't been following the Intimidators much this year. Without looking or thinking too much, I know Chris Bassitt (W-S) is having a great year. flavum
Nice job by the Barons bullpen in the suspended game. No hits. 1 bb, 10 k in 5.2. Webb struck out 3 in his inning. Edited May 5, 2013 by flavum

flavum
It seems wrong you can give up two homers, but only 1 earned run. But thems the rules.

DirtySox
QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ May 4, 2013 -> 08:51 PM) Myles Jaye could be considered That would be my answer.
danman31
Jaye also struck out 9 guys in his last start. He had a low ERA, but with mediocre peripherals earlier. Webb is looking like a very solid relief prospect after his nice AA debut today. Another hard thrower.

Unfortunately, the ONE area where we've been productive in our minor league system (especially last year) has been producing relievers. The problem is that they have the lowest trade value of any component of a team. Edited May 5, 2013 by caulfield12
Balta1701
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2013 -> 10:36 PM) Unfortunately, the ONE area where we've been productive in our minor league system (especially last year) has been producing relievers. The problem is that they have the lowest trade value of any component of a team. But...if you turn a young guy into a successful closer, you can build that value a lot. In theory, yes. The problem is that we've received almost or next to nothing back in return for Foulke, Gordon, Jenks, JJ Putz and Santos. We cultivated the two best LH set-up guys of the decade in the AL and let their values plummet to zero (Marte and Thornton). Probably the only good example of trading a power arm and getting a bat back has been Gillaspie. Although I'm not 100% convinced that Hahn could put Nathan Jones on the market right now and come up with another trade like that (at least, as it has worked out so far). And that successful closer, even Addison Reed this year, if he doesn't have totally dominating stuff...where he can just blow hitters away, there's always going to be question marks surrounding him until he does it 2-3 seasons in a row, and by that time he has become more expensive. Chicago White Sox
QUOTE (danman31 @ May 4, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) Jaye also struck out 9 guys in his last start. He had a low ERA, but with mediocre peripherals earlier. Webb is looking like a very solid relief prospect after his nice AA debut today. Another hard thrower. Pretty crazy we got both of these guys for a mediocre middle reliever in Jason Frasor. Right now, they're a better return than what we got in the Sergio Santos & Edwin Jackson deals.
