5/9 games

Buch just gave up a 2-run homer too. 5-5 in Birmingham. Both Dan Black and Andy Wilkins trying to jump to prospect status. I'd like to see Black continue this success into AAA before deeming him anything, but you almost have to think of him as a potential replacement for Konerko down the road at this point.

How often does a player have more runs scored than hits? Trayce has 29 runs and 26 hits this season.

It is great to see that he is evening out his k/bb. currently at 28 K's and 21 BB.

These #'s are more than likely from before this game was played today.

Nah, those are after today's game.

He's got a solid OBP (.347) when you consider that awful .222 average. And he is 8/9 in SB this year too. Would like to see some more power, but isn't BIR a pitchers park?

It was known as a pitchers park, but during the offseason they brought walls in a little to help the offense. I remember reading something a few weeks ago that stated they were surprised that it hasn't really changed much from an offensive standpoint.

Aren't they in a brand new park?

Sanchez still hasn't broken the 600 OPS mark yet.

As much as we rail on and on about Ramirez and Beckham, it's hard to imagine putting up with Morel/2012 numbers from Sanchez and fans having much patience with him.

He doesn't have to put up 700+ numbers at the major league level, to contribute, but he's got to at least be a low 600's guy or his defense won't be enough to offset anything he can contribute offensively.

With our offense being in the horrible shape it's in (big league club), it would be really hard to add a hitter like Sanchez to our line-up. But he's still quite young, so we can be patient this year and let things play out.

I would like to see the professional scouts start to taking a serious look at Micah Johnson soon. We know he's pretty fast, but not this fast. It would be good to know if he is doing this with the right techniques or just taking advantage of inexperienced pitchers down in low A.

He employs an unorthodox approach apparently.

Here's how it works: At first base, rather than take the usual three or four initial steps off the bag, Johnson starts with only a pair of conservative shuffles. As the pitcher sets, Johnson begins to walk toward second base, and he doesn't stop until the pitcher makes a move one way or the other.

"The lead won't be that big, but my momentum is carrying me toward second," he said.

When he gets to second base, he'll switch to what he calls a jumping lead.

"I'm constantly jumping back and forth whether the pitcher is looking or not," he said. "I worked on that at the Cape Cod League with Mike Roberts. It's just kind of a thing I finally got an understanding of."

Found this from last spring at Baseball America....

Indiana junior second baseman Micah Johnson, a third-team preseason All-American, was slated to have elbow surgery today that could sideline him for the remainder of the season, though he hopes to return in May.

Johnson returned from the Cape Cod League last summer with soreness in his elbow, and the pain never subsided as the Hoosiers hoped, and he went just 3-for-21 as the team's DH this year.

"Realistically, I don't know what that bodes for us in terms of us getting him back this season or not," Indiana coach Tracy Smith told the Indiana Daily Student. "We will see how it goes with his rehab. He is going to go ahead and take care of it now and get himself right because it was a declining performance for him based on how he was feeling."

Johnson hit .335/.402/.474 with 19 stolen bases in 22 tries as a sophomore last year, and his quick-twitch athleticism helped him rank No. 92 in BA's preseason College Top 100 Prospects list for the 2012 draft.

I was hoping Micah Johnson could reach W-S sometime in June, now I am thinking he could get there before May is even over. He clearly is not being challenged in Low-A ball.

.303/.389/.477/.866, 6 2B, 5 3B (leads league), 29 SB (leads the world), 1 HR, 16 RBI, 14 BB, 27 K

I guess you could argue hitting .303 in Low-A really isn't worthy of a promotion, but that OBP and SB is really exactly what we could use in a couple years.

Promoting a guy based on stolen bases seems like a bad idea. He needs to get on base to steal those bases at higher levels. He's doing well, but no need to rush him.

But the Sox do love to rush their young guys. Either way, I really hope he comes up aces because I am not a Carlos Sanchez fan, so it'd be great if he could keep the seat warm for Micah if he continues to get on-base at the higher levels.

Also keep in mind that the 2B in W-S is Joey DeMichele, who is just now starting to hit a little. There is no way they demote him, but he's not ready to jump to AA either. So... Johnson probably isn't going anywhere for a while.

Tyler Saladino is playing 2B in B-Ham, with Semien at short. If one of those two guys moves up to Charlotte at some point, AND if DeMichele is hitting in W-S, then you'll see them all move up a level, I'd think.
