caulfield12
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/los-angeles-d...-135400381.html It's interesting they say that Peavy is too expensive, and that gives the Dodgers some sort of leverage... At one point this week, it looked like we were going to be 7 GB. Now it's only 4. The article has moved into the pointless category for the moment. However, one would imagine if the AL Central leader (probably DET) pushed the Sox to 8-9-10 games behind first place, the rumors would really start to fly then. For now, that's going to be the magical barometer. 8 games would be iffy. 9 would be the tipping point, especially if there are still three other teams between 1st place and the position of the Sox. southsider2k5
Everything about the Peavy contract is a steal. Any article that states otherwise isn't worth a click.

LittleHurt05
That Yahoo Contributor Network is really ruining their reputation. They have some great writers like Passan & Wetzel, but then they allow stuff like this to be posted as actual "news".
hogan873
With Peavy's performance so far, he's a bargain. A short, relatively team friendly contract for a guy who pitches like he does has got to be enticing to other teams. If the Sox end up trading him, they should get a very nice return. lasttriptotulsa
I am of the understanding that pretty much anybody can write articles and get them posted through the Contributer Network. Is this so? If it is, why are we even discussing this? My article about the Sox trying to aquire Mike Trout for DeWayne Wise will be up shortly.

iamshack
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 17, 2013 -> 08:07 AM) So why would the Dodgers have an advantage if it's a price that many people are willing to pay? Again, I explained it right above for you...see a few posts up... To elaborate...mid-season, most teams have basically set their budgets for the most part and it is somewhat difficult to absorb a player with a large salary...so often times teams have to get creative and offer back other forms of compensation, such as more prospects. What the writer is insinuating is that the Dodgers, with their big pocketbook, can absorb that salary without a problem, making them an ideal suitor if the White Sox decide they want that salary off the books. Obviously the writer is not super familiar with the White Sox organization and how it has historically been run. I just disagree that so many other teams would have difficulty absorbing Jake's salary. It's not that much money in today's baseball and it could be a game-changer in a pennant race. I would assume teams that are competing have some money set aside in the budget to make a move or two at the trade deadline.

I promise you that if Peavy were a FA, he would get A LOT more in terms of years and of dollars per year.
elrockinMT
There is no reason for this team to be considering trading Peavy. Plus to the Dodgers? They are in far worse shape in the standings then we are so maybe they become sellers instead
