Well, the first trade Peavy to the Dodgers article is here

It's interesting they say that Peavy is too expensive, and that gives the Dodgers some sort of leverage...

At one point this week, it looked like we were going to be 7 GB. Now it's only 4. The article has moved into the pointless category for the moment.

However, one would imagine if the AL Central leader (probably DET) pushed the Sox to 8-9-10 games behind first place, the rumors would really start to fly then.

For now, that's going to be the magical barometer. 8 games would be iffy. 9 would be the tipping point, especially if there are still three other teams between 1st place and the position of the Sox.

With Peavy's performance so far, he's a bargain. A short, relatively team friendly contract for a guy who pitches like he does has got to be enticing to other teams. If the Sox end up trading him, they should get a very nice return.

I am of the understanding that pretty much anybody can write articles and get them posted through the Contributer Network. Is this so? If it is, why are we even discussing this? My article about the Sox trying to aquire Mike Trout for DeWayne Wise will be up shortly.

That Yahoo Contributor Network is really ruining their reputation. They have some great writers like Passan & Wetzel, but then they allow stuff like this to be posted as actual "news".

Our own Jake writes for them and does a really nice job.

The articles are to be taken for what they are...the insights of well-written local fans...

Greinke: $19 mil

Becket : $15.75 mil

Lilly: $12 mil

Billingsley: $11 mil

Kershaw: $11 mil

But Jake Peavy at $14 mil is high-priced

He didn't exactly say Peavy was high-priced or had a bad contract...he was insinuating that the White Sox would have no use for it if they remain in last place, and that the Dodgers, with their apparent ability to continue to take on big contracts, would have an edge in the trade negotiations.

Local fan? Yes. Well-written? I disagree

Yeah, I am pretty sure that kid is a Dodgers fan...

And the article itself is well-written...the opinions themselves, well those are obviously very Dodger-friendly...

Except Peavy doesn't have a big contract

It is a high price tag....a Mercedes has a high price tag too...doesn't mean there aren't people willing to pay that price...

So why would the Dodgers have an advantage if it's a price that many people are willing to pay?

Again, I explained it right above for you...see a few posts up...

To elaborate...mid-season, most teams have basically set their budgets for the most part and it is somewhat difficult to absorb a player with a large salary...so often times teams have to get creative and offer back other forms of compensation, such as more prospects. What the writer is insinuating is that the Dodgers, with their big pocketbook, can absorb that salary without a problem, making them an ideal suitor if the White Sox decide they want that salary off the books.

Obviously the writer is not super familiar with the White Sox organization and how it has historically been run.

And I'm explaining to you that it's not a big contract. Therefore, the Dodgers' ability to eat money won't be an advantage in negotiations, because plenty of teams will gladly take Peavy's team-friendly contract.

I just disagree that so many other teams would have difficulty absorbing Jake's salary. It's not that much money in today's baseball and it could be a game-changer in a pennant race. I would assume teams that are competing have some money set aside in the budget to make a move or two at the trade deadline.

Not to mention it is a two year contract. I promise you that if Peavy were a FA, he would get A LOT more in terms of years and of dollars per year.
