Game Thread 5/22: BOS @ SOX

We already won the series and we're losing this game. You don't bring out the big dogs unless its must win or you're already winning.

That's how we ended up just kind of floating along...drifting...in the standings. We need that 14-2/13-1 streak, and it's almost impossible with our inconsistent hitting and bullpen woes.

You can't get back over .500 is you continue to fall flat when you have opportunities to sweep teams that are back on their heels.

Couldn't disagree more. You have tomorrow off and your starting pitcher gave you 6 innings. You should be able to piece together 3 innings from your bullpen. Omogrosso had no business starting this inning. If the score was something like 5-1 going into this inning, then that's fine.

I couldn't disagree more. Crain threw yesterday and is fragile. Thornton sucks. If we were winning 2-1, you bring out Crain. We were losing.

I think the Sox are happy to give him time to struggle at the plate, but he is really pushing his luck with his defense. It'll have to be Phegley though, because Gimenez has been even worse defensively

The season is a marathon. Everyone thinks its a sprint.

Look at how many errors Ramirez has made this season because he's played every inning.

Think that will improve in July/August/September?

The only reason we almost won last year was taking a lead into the last 6 weeks of the season.

We're not constructed to reel in our opponents from behind in the final 1/3rd of the year.

The bullpen will completely implode at this rate. And Reed hasn't even gone through the inevitable rough patch.

Tired of Tyler Flowers. When is enough enough?

It should be all year, as you don't go into this season with this stupid plan they had if you're not willing to live with his struggles.

Or the fact that we play the Tigers so often during the 2nd half of the year, and our offense isn't constructed to beat up on RHP.

It's May and we're like 5 games back. Wtf? There's 3/4 of a season left.

Have to be encouraged that Phegley has done well, though. Good organizations can have guys that struggle when there is a hot minor leaguer right behind him

Not to mention the fact that there are ZERO signs of Ventura's defensive intervention having any effect.

We might be 3 games higher in the standings than our low point, and we should be able to beat the Marlins and Cubs, but a .500 club isn't going to get it done when we currently have only two reliable relievers and the worst defense in the AL.

Flowers has been killing us.

You think he is going to magically fix his problems that he has had his entire career? I think at some point you have to realize that this is just futile and go in another direction.

Frankly, I can't take you seriously because you don't watch the games. You have no idea how Ramirez has looked defensively.

Caufield may be a reactionary but I also dislike your response. I hate the "it's early" type posts regarding our team. It's like the Sox goal is to win the division by one game every year rather than actually play good baseball most of the season and win the fricking division.

While we're piling on Robin why the heck doesn't Gimenez get more starts against RH's . He only went 4/5 with a HR last time he played. And it's not so much Flower's hitting I mind but my goodness he can't catch a lick.

Oh trust me, I think he's awful. At best, he's a 2nd string catcher if the starting catcher can pound righties. He'd be a great complimentary player to someone like John Jaso.
