TaylorStSox
QUOTE (greg775 @ May 22, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) Caufield may be a reactionary but I also dislike your response. I hate the "it's early" type posts regarding our team. It's like the Sox goal is to win the division by one game every year rather than actually play good baseball most of the season and win the fricking division. It's early means you don't bring your fragile set up guy into back to back games when you're losing in May. Especially after we already won the f***ing series. Baron
QUOTE (fathom @ May 22, 2013 -> 09:54 PM) Oh trust me, I think he's awful. At best, he's a 2nd string catcher if the starting catcher can pound righties. He'd be a great complimentary player to someone like John Jaso. I know...Im just saying giving him an entire year to take a dump isnt going to help him or the ball club. I think its a matter of weeks before we have a new starting catcher. I take it the fans at games aren't overly into this team ... again. Nobody expected the boys to post a comeback? Nobody expected the boys to post a comeback? It would be interesting to know the last time we average so few fans for a 3 game series at home vs Boston. Quick research shows usual crowds averaging about 30k vs them the last 10 years or so. Edited May 23, 2013 by fathom
caulfield12
http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/fielding/_/po...lse/order/false Flowers with 5 passed balls, Gimenez with an amazingly-high 4 already. So we have 2 out of the top 12 in that dubious category.

fathom
Hawk must have missed that meatballs Flowers, Konerko and Viciedo had tonight. Buchholz was good but definitely vulnerable tonight, especially with Sox getting men on to leadoff the inning.

Jake
The thing that always puzzled me about Nate is why he never throws his curveball. Scouts had raved about how good his curveball was, but he ditched it for a slider when he came up to the Sox. He has a great changeup too, but has abandoned that because he struggles locating it. Cerbaho-WG
I admittedly find it incredible that the Sox continue to trot out one of the worst catchers in all of baseball when the catcher in AAA has an OPS of like 1.050. I'd understand if the rest of the offense was setting the world on fire...

Unless Phegley's defense is really that bad that the coaching staff is worried about the effect it will have on the pitching staff. Maybe they see him more as a 1B/DH candidate. Hard to say. If they thought it was the right move, they'd pull the plug on Flowers and Gimenez. That they haven't yet shows there are some serious organizational questions about Phegley's defense. That they haven't yet shows there are some serious organizational questions about Phegley's defense. I disagree. Two thoughts on why: - they thought enough of Flowers' potential to give him a chance at being a full-time starter, so they think it's too early to give up on him in a year where they might be looking to unload at the deadline - if they make the move now, they open themselves up for criticism about letting AJ go
