Bmr31
Hey I know we won and all, but what the HELL was Jerry thinking when he let Cotts come out for the 6th? Before the inning started i said they should take Cotts out. He had dodged several bullets, his pitch count was up, and the same s*** happened in his last start. You take the guy out there. Let him remember that he held a good team to 1 run in 5 innings. JM brings him out in the 6th and of course the first two runners get on. DUH? Thank god Sully pitched us outta that jam. PS Im not a JM basher, but this man really needs a clue.
IlliniBob72
Eh, I have no problem with Cotts going back out there. Yeah, the same thing happened last time, but the kid won't stretch his outings longer if you don't let him try.

Yeah, the same thing happened last time, but the kid won't stretch his outings longer if you don't let him try. It was a bad move. If cotts had stayed out for the entire 6th, we may have lost. Give him credit for taking him out when he did, but it was 2 batters too late. Anyone could see Cotts was done. We dont have time to be worrying about stretching a rookie out, we are in a pennant race.
Rowand44
I hate Manuel more then anyone, but I disagree with you bmr, I'm not exactly what his pitch count was, but I know it was only in the 70's or 80's he was pitching pretty well, this was not a bad move by Jerry. It was 87. He was wild, we got 5 innings out of him. Why push it?
Rex Hudler
Funny thing.......... I didn't think JM should have let Neal come out for the 6th in his last outing, but this time, I didn't have a problem with it at all.
IlliniBob72
If he's going to be your fifth starter, you need more than 5 innings out of him every start. Leadoff man gets on...so what? Second guy gets on, ok, you take him out, and JM did. He couldn't have known the first two would get on until they did, so he made the move. The kid showed he could get out of jams. Up 5-1, thrown only 80+ pitches, JM would have been lynched for taking him out without a chance to go into the sixth.

Nokona
Disagree. I think he'll go into the 8th by the end of the sesason.
IlliniBob72
This kid isnt gonna last past 5 or 6 innings. Hes too wild. Well, surely he won't if you're going to yank him after 80+ pitches.
BridgeportHeather
Disagree. I think he'll go into the 8th by the end of the sesason. If he can keep his pitch count down...He can be somewhat wild, which isn't going to help his pitch count. Luckily he's able to get it done when it's on the line though. Bmr31
Well, surely he won't if you're going to yank him after 80+ pitches. Okay lets just get to the facts. How did he do in the 6th? End of conversation.
Rowand44
Okay lets just get to the facts. How did he do in the 6th? End of conversation. Well colon had a bad 1st inning in texas, so I guess JM shouldn't have let him start.

Rex Hudler
I think Cotts will settle into a 6 or 7 inning guy this year.......
YASNY
Okay lets just get to the facts. How did he do in the 6th? End of conversation. That's hindsight Bmr. I know you questioned it at the beginning of the 6th, but from JM's point of view, I think he's trying to build him up for the rest of the season. We may need an 8 inning game from Cotts before this year is done. Besides, he knew he had a well rested Sully available.

IndySoxFan
i would disagree with that.... i think he is a good manager.... my main reason for thinking this is that the players really connect with him. i can't think of anyone who would get more out of these guys.
