Bmr31
Rex, This was my 1st extended look at Cotts. Im still leary of his control, but i saw a pitcher with good stuff and loads of potential. Im not sure hes gonna be a #1 or even # 2, but he looks to be a 12-15 game winner for years to come. Im gonna have to say, based on what i saw today, you were right. Rex Hudler
Thanks Bmr for coming to your senses..... LOL I will be honest with you that Cottsy struggle big time tonight. I watched his whole outing and he was not himself at all. Actually, he pitched like he did early in the year, always escaping trouble. I expect us to see better from him, but don't get your panties in a wad if he has a bad outing here or there, like any other pitcher is susceptible of. doubleM23
Yes, I am also eating crow about Cotts (so far... Doesn't taste so bad from 1st place). Anyway, I'd still prefer to have him in AA getting some seasoning, but if he wants to pitch like that in Chicago, well, I guess I can live with that from the #5. YASNY
I've always been one to take a "wait and see" approach with any new player, whether it be a minor league call up or an acquisition from another team. I had never seen Cotts pitch, but I had been watching those Barons box scores. Cotts did seem to master his control somewhat the last two months. I was very hopeful that he could help us out, as we really needed it.

Forcing it too hard during a contract year, where your employer already said he can't have you back. That will discract you on the field big time. upnorthsox
Take Rex for granted? He's a baseball slut always willing to give it up to us! Kidding aside though, stats can tell you alot but not the whole story. That's where first hand observations like Rex's are so invaluable. The fun part is guessing which ones are which, hype aside. Atlanta is the closest MLB park to Birmingham and I go there a couple of times a year, but I have grown to enjoy those games less and less each year, while the opposite is true for Minor League games. Keep up the good work and get the Barons into the playoffs. You are in a perfect role to position yourself for the future and I must give you props on recognizing that yourself.
