witesoxfan
QUOTE (mataipaepae @ May 30, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) I am relaxed. I just see a team with a ceiling of average. we have a very fine pitching staff, but our offense is very inept. so why not use our pieces now to improve for next year? I am not talking a fire sale either. I am saying that our base to base running is clogging the offense up. and our homerun or nothing is really slowing us down. I love paul konerko, but if he can bring back some very nice pieces why not look into it. I bet a team that is challenging would love to have him. and would give up something of value as well. You hang onto them because you will lose absolutely nothing by trading them in July as opposed to June. The offense needs to get better, but there's plenty of time for that to happen. We always point to 2005, but that offense was not good. Among starting players, only Konerko, Dye, and Iguchi had OPS+'s above 100, and Iguchi was only slightly better than league average. The Sox current offense is more than capable of duplicating those sort of numbers. I'm willing to give that time to come around. Where they do need significant help is in the bullpen. We thought this was a rock solid group coming into the year - Reed, Crain, Thornton, Jones, Lindstrom, and Veal. Two of those guys have been complete flops this year, two have been very mediocre, while only two have been pretty stellar. Santiago is back but, against my craziest thoughts from last year, he's been seemingly far better and is far more valuable as a starting pitcher. If this team is to make any move, they should try out and/or acquire some new arms for the bullpen because as currently constructed, it is by far the team's biggest downfall. Because of how poor it is, hitters are trying to do too much and pitchers are pressing and trying to be perfect. If they get some stability back there, other guys will settle into their roles and relax. And s***, if those guys flop, then either move on to the next, deal them again, or hope they pitch better next year.
