Maybe we should have scratched a couple runs across, but we just got beat by a really good pitcher tonight. Nothing to hang our heads about. As Hawk would say, this is one of the 50 you were always going to lose.

I disagree, Jake. If you are going to come out and play zombie-like by giving them a first-inning run, you are contributing to your own demise. In some ways it's not just one of the 50 you are going to lose when you put it on a platter for them in the first inning.

Who thought it would be a good idea for Flowers to play tonight? Hell, Viciedo against a righty with a 97 mph fastball and a splitter probably should have resulted in Wise starting. Oh well, need to win tomorrow's game.

Positives of the day:

Gillaspie improved his BA (1-3)

Viciedo picked up a beautiful assist

Omo threw two scoreless

Attendance topped 30k for maybe the last time this season

I was at the worst game in Sox history. Vs the Twins. 20 to 1. I remember Betemit making about ten errors.

Didn't Colon or Garcia start that one?

It was fairly early in the season, April or May?

Just looked uo the box score. Fatolo started. 8 runs, only one error. Betemit with two errors, but his defense was worse than that. Someone named Gobble pitched for us. Who?

Edit: oh Jimmy Gobble of Royals fame. No recollection of him being with the Sox.

I'd say no way they draw 30000 for a game the rest of the season unless it's in the playoffs. If they were between 10 and 15 over .500 and the kids are still out of school, maybe for a Friday or Saturday night game. If they are a team with this kind of record, no way. This Cub game proves that. 10,000 Cub fans and 30,000 total? Wow. We have pretty much a loyal fan base of about 20,000 on a given night, right??
