Yes, Gillaspie has been very good. He's going to be a serviceable player.

Actually De Aza looked good last year too. He's been a train wreck.

More than anything, the Sox need to draft and develop a star offensive player. Hopefully soon.

Gillaspie is a solid player, but on a good team he's likely a 7 or 8 hitter. For what we gave up for him, it was a great acquisition.

Hawk and Stoney are extremely pissed off today.

They should be doing a hit-and-run every chance they get with Keppinger up to bat and a runner on base. Have to stop sitting around waiting for a 3 run homer on this team with average power.

Of course, with the way this season's going, it would only end up with a swing-and-a-miss wipeout of the runner at 2nd by 10-15 feet.

As opposed to the likely 6-4-3 DP with Keppinger up :)

Hawkins is the only one with a shot...if he gets his head out of the clouds.

15-25% chance Viciedo does it.

Quintana basically has a season's worth of production now.

All in all, a very good first year. Great job by the Sox getting guys like Quintana and Axelrod from other organizations.

Now, how about some position players?

Other organizations being the Windy City Thunderbolts? Heh

It's amazing, when you look at the homer numbers last year.

Dunn, Konerko, AJ, Viciedo and Rios with 25+

Youkilis and Beckham with 15+

And Alexei/DeAza were dangerous from time to time as well.

After seeing some of his tweets, I have to remind myself he's 19. I just hope he's "baseball smart", or becomes baseball smart over the next few years.

I have hope for Trayce Thompson because he seems to have some smarts to go along with some tools.

Gillaspie.

A's announcers claiming Viciedo prefers to play 3B. Not 100% sure where they got that one.

Colon first AL pitcher with two shutouts in a season at age 40 or older since Dennis Eckersley.

2nd oldest in OAK history to throw a shutout. Don Sutton beat the White Sox 18 years ago...was a bit older than Bartolo.

Considering Eckersley didn't start a game after he was 32 years old, i think you have some bad info.

Gillaspie unproductive out.

Is that a bit of sarcasm ? Unless your bunting in that situation you hit away . Looking for a hit there and to drive the ball. He hit it hard just at someone. Most outs are unproductive but if you're going to make an out with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs it needs to be productive.

He needs to pull the ball to the right side of the infield and try to advance the runner.

You could hit into a DP, but that's the normal baseball perspective on hitters who aren't 3-4-5 guys in the line-up.

No, you need to try and hit the ball hard. He did, but just right at the left fielder.

Another ball Gordon Beckham might have been able to get to...

There's the hit from a former White Sox prospect with RISP.

The last pitcher over 40 to throw a shutout in the AL was Curt Schilling in 2007.

"What impressed me was the way he pitched to (cleanup hitter) Adam Dunn," Jaso said. "There's one particular spot the pitcher's report says not to throw him. We threw him only there. I'd call something and he'd shake me off and pitch to that spot. The ball was just moving so much."

Dunn did get one of the five White Sox singles, but it came with two out in the fourth and he, like the rest of the White Sox, never got past first base.

"I was trying to pitch him outside," Colon said through interpreter Ariel Prieto, aware that Dunn came into the game 5 for 10 with a homer off him. "He's a guy who's hit me well. I was trying to pitch him outside to change his rhythm."

Colon, who has won three straight after a spell of four starts in which he hadn't won, is establishing himself as a key member of the rotation again at a time when No. 1 starter Brett Anderson is injured (stress fracture, right foot) and out of action.

"I feel proud to pitch the way I did today," Colon said. "And it's against a team I pitched for back in the day (2003 and 2009)."

We don't need outs we need hits and Conor is one of the few hitting the ball hard consistently and if you want to advance the runner with an out ,bunt. I'd rather not risk the DP .Ideally yes pull the ball and try to get it in the hole since the infielders are shaded up the middle. Unproductive outs are the norm not the exception.
