Phil Rogers throws KW under the bus

Just listening to 670 and Phil Rogers was being interviewed.

First, I actually loved one of his crazy trade ideas - Dunn for Ethier. That is worth thinking about, but it isn't the most rebuilding-y move. This is off topic, though.

Beyond that, he was talking about KW and essentially said he was lazy. He brought up him going to Egypt during AS break last year as an example, despite having no retort for "that's the work ethic of a man who has already surrendered his job to his successor."

He then vaguely mentions that KW didn't put in the hours that other GMs do throughout his career. Realizing that he was saying something highly insulting, he said he was "good at delegating tasks to others" to soften things up.

He said that KW's idea of putting in the work for player development was going to the AFL, deciding a player was an All-Star, then singlemindedly trying to get that player from there on out, regardless of anything else.

When the hosts were wishing that they could be assured that Hahn is as pissed off and anxious to shake things up as KW is/would be, Rogers didn't seem to believe that KW ever really gave a s***. When asked if he thought KW was seething about the current team, Rogers says he doesn't think so. KW is looking forward to a life out of baseball because he presumably didn't enjoy it.

Is anyone buying this? There are a lot of things to say about KW, but lazy is not something I've ever heard. Rogers paints a picture of a fairly disinterested, hands-off general manager. I don't buy it -- he may make questionable decisions like anyone else, but everything that I have observed and heard makes me feel that KW was an over-effort guy, not a low effort GM.

Likewise, since I don't have a transcript to examine, did anyone else hear this interview and take away something different from it?

It is the first I have ever heard anything like that. You would think since he had the job 12 years, something would have come out if this is true, much sooner. It could be he became disinterested just near the end. It could all be BS, or KWs Chicago tough routine could have all been false hustle like his false modesty.

I would tend to think if he really was what Phil apparently is claiming, it was only near the end. It never seemed like he was lazy, but I also never knew he took a vacation during the season last year either. Anyway, his GM work ethic is no longer an issue. Hopefully Hahn is working on some things.

Didn't hear the interview, but heard some red flags about his work habits last year from my guy. I did not post it here because I knew I'd get jumped on for it. Anyway, when it was announced that Hahn was taking over I figured that was the reason KW was "slacking."

So when are we getting proven workhorse Brandon McCarthy back? I too still feel violated by Kenny Williams over that trade.

f***.

I'm with you Phil Rogers, I love everything you have to say, and I hope to share a few bags with you at some point during this boring season. And next time we see each other, I don't care whether you insist on it or not, the thinner is on me.

Wasn't his trip to Egypt his honeymoon? If so, I'm sure Hahn had already agreed to take over the GM job in principle by that point.

I think there is some behind the scenes beef between them, because Phil Rogers is constantly bashing KW on the radio.

No. He's engaged to Zoraida Sambolin. She is recovering from a double mastectomy.

Since when has "being jumped" stopped you from posting anything? If this is the same guy telling you Ozzie was coming back, ROTFL. Don't forget, they offered Ventura an extension after that doosy.

Oh ok, he went there with her though right?

Who knows, but you would imagine so. The thing is how many MLB GMs take a vacation during the season, especially if they are GMing a first place team? KW probably checked out last year. But if Hahn was running the ship and JR approved, it really doesn't matter.

Why should I tell this board what I hear after being told how stupid it is?

Who cares about the Egypt trip last year, as KW did a great job of acquiring Liriano and Youkilis for nothing during the year. Now, if he was on vacation when he thought he was getting Yadier Molina for Santos and not Nestor Molina, then I'd be a lot more upset.

I like to hear things so keep it up

Had some interesting stuff from last year that I didn't post because like I said why get jumped on? Haven't been to the park as much this year due to bad weather and a medical issue.

Considering a large percentage of your posts are designed to get people to jump on you, i find this post hysterical.

I think you've got it pegged here. KW probably checked out once he knew Hahn was taking over. It happens in all types of professions.

I just find it hard to believe that KW was lazy his entire time as GM and it's only coming out just now.

f*** Phil Rogers and all of the other Chicago writers who don't have the stones to write about anyone when they are relevant. How gutless can you be?

I agree with this even though I wasn't a KW fan and have liked Rogers more than most. Bring it up when he goes on vacation, not now.

It's one thing to get jumped on for an opinion. It's another thing to get jumped on for something you were told. Hahn and Guillen have no beef as difficult as that may be for some here to believe.

My biggest problem is that it means you aren't doing your job as a sports reporter.

Just because they didn't have a beef doesn't mean Hahn would consider bringing him back. And he wouldn't have offered Ventura an extension if the story was true as was presnted.

The funny thing about this thread and Ozzie, is supposedly one of the beefs Loria had with Ozzie was that he was lazy. Ome unnamed Marlin player did say all Ozzie cares about is money.

You think my source doesn't know what's going on? To each their own.
