Cali
From the official site: Tim Hummel drove in his 80th run, ranking him second in the International League, during Charlotte's 11-6 victory at Richmond Friday. Hummel is reportedly the player to be named later in the Scott Sullivan deal with Cincinnati, but he has yet to clear waivers.
KipWellsFan
Yes I just read that, it's kind of upsetting but you have to give something up for a quality reliever like Sullivan.
Capn12
Honestly, where was Hummel supposed to play in Chicago? He can't play SS consistently...we have Crede at 3B, maybe 2B...but I'd rather have Alomar back...
Cali
Ever since the Sox got Harris back in '02 I had this weird feeling that he was never gonna get to the Sox. Looks like I'm right. Good Luck to Hummel though.
Jim Fainter
And what happens if he doesn't clear waivers? Why wouldn't some team pick him up? My guess is that he would be named in the off season.

We could always draw him back and wait. Doesn't matter really.
mac9001
If Hummel is gone, that means the Sox's have to be pretty confident that'll get Almoar back.

If he doesn't clear waivers, then the Sox woudl likely have to substitute another player, not on their 40-man roster We discussed this at length on Friday. Why the new thread? Someone not paying attention?? LOL
MnSoxFan
Hankins play this season at 3B probably made it easier to let Hummel go too. I see Hankins is going to catch in Fall league, interesting.

danman31
Hummel isn't that good. Too many people here think he is good. With all the middle IFers we have he wasn't going to play. Sullivan is worth it.
Guest wsc425
Heard of a youngster named Gookie Dawkins, is he any good?
DBAHO
Since Hummel is now probably leaving to Cincinatti, our infield depth in the minors is probably the weakest part of our farm system now. Alomar even if he is resigned probably only has a year or 2 left in him, while Jose might not even be coming back if we can't re-work his deal. I think we need to draft a SS or 2B with out 1st pick in next year's draft, like Toronto did this year. Any thoughts?

There are some solid middle infielders in the low minors so 2 years from now, it is impossible to tell what the system will look like. Everyone wants to give up on Andy Gonzalex, but I think it is premature to do that. Pedro Lopez has been solid at Kannapolis and is a slick fielder. Ruddy Yan is likely only two years away. Robert Valido is a highly regarded SS and is showing that he can hit. Also fair to mention is Aaron Miles, who if he doesn't leave via free agency, could be a 1-2 year stopgap at 2B. YASNY
I'd like to see Aaron Miles get a September call up. He's earned it.

Cali
I wanna see Yofu get called up, I'm sure he won't, but it would just be funny to hear Hawk say "Yofu"
YASNY
On the subject of September call ups, I read where JM said they'd probably call up a pitcher and a catcher. As far as other position players, he said that he is having trouble getting Harris and Rowand at bats now, so he doesn't see the need for others. Then why not call up a catcher and 2 or 3 pitchers?

DBAHO
If we do call up 2 pitchers for the pitchers for the stretch run, any thoughts on who'd they be. I suppose Koch has to come back and they'd prob want another long reliever like Adkins.

I just don't think they will load up on extra guys while they are in a pennant race.
