lord chas
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 12:11 PM) There is a nauseating amount of these people in the Chicagoland area right now. I hate it. Agree. Many people on social media thinking the Boston fans were booing the Hawks when Bettman appeared and complaining that Handzus got the Cup second

kitekrazy
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 07:29 AM) Except for that whole double 3-peat thing in the 90s Yeah that's a real stain in Chicago sports history.
kitekrazy
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 08:45 AM) No one in their right mind would argue hockey's place on the national stage but this city has absolutely fallen in love with the Hawks. Look at the sell out streak, ticket prices, tv ratings, whatever you want to look at, Chicago has been hockey crazy for a bit now. Funny how winning does that. kitekrazy
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 08:55 AM) I fell in love with the team and hockey in general during this stretch. So awesome. I gotta save some money to buy a ticket when the Hawks comes to town. I'm 3 miles away from Jobing.com Arena.
Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 11:14 AM) I remember seeing the horde of people on Waveland during the game too, it was just pure mayhem on the street after that homer. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 11:17 AM) I remember feeling like the room I was in became 200 degrees after that homer. Only other time a sporting event caused that type of reaction for me was when Jenks blew the first game vs Indians in that big series in 2005 (the day before the Crede walkoff). I googled "Kerry Wood HR 2003" and shockingly the whole game is up on YT. The Wood at-bat starts at 34:30. That s*** was just nuts. kitekrazy
QUOTE (My_Sox_Summer @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 08:57 AM) AJ provided this team with a leader and a voice. An attitude. They are really missing that this year. This team is very vanilla, someone needs to step up and make some noise. Pauly isn't gonna do it. Dunn isn't gonna do it. Peavy talks a good game, but doesn't carry it over clearly. We need a leader. AJ doesn't make us a contender, much like Flowers doesn't make us a losing team. That being said, a World Series trophy is only second to a Super Bowl trophy in this town. NBA would be 3rd. Hockey 4th. There are a TON of Blackhawk bandwagons right now, that happens. It says alot that the Stanley Cup finals was on a channel that many folks didn't even get on their regular cable/dish. Hawks sell tons of tickets, and keep raising their prices. No one even complains. The wagon is going strong, ride it till the wheels fall off! I enjoy the Hawks, but I am in no way a die-hard fan. And hell, I'd watch the Playoffs of just about any sport. The team has been vanilla for quite some time. They need a young superstar like Frank in his prime. Chris Sale doesn't fill that void since he is a pitcher. kitekrazy
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 10:16 AM) Have you seen the Bartman 30 for 30? That was game 6, but the kid filming from the stadium gave a good feeling as to how anxious the place was. I started watching that. Most us were watching the TV broadcast. What's real interesting how classless Stone was on the radio over that. The funniest thing is Gov. Rod B., "He'll never get a pardon from me." It's a testament on how classless the Cubs organization is and how barbaric we have become as sports fans.

Only hockey you ever watched before this year were the Mighty Ducks movies. Yeah, right. I told you all my dad had season tickets and I went to 20 or more games a year for a 5-6 year stretch of my childhood on the South side. I also told you I am a playoff only fan now. I watched every playoff game. I also played hockey at Brother Rice and was pretty good. I grew up playing hockey in the winter at the park on the south side. I've been hit in the nuts with a puck without a cup and it hurts. I've played goalie in pickup games on the south side and been scared to death of taking a puck to the mouth. But I don't know hockey at all. I loved going to Hawks games as a kid. Nothing like seeing the puck go in the net and the red light and the fans go crazy. I don't have a problem with bandwagoners. Just admit it. Wite did. I won't comment any more on this to pollute the board. I told everybody I was CURRENTLY a playoff-only fan, living in Kansas where you get used to not having hockey. I also explained my past relationship with hockey. I played it. I have gone to tons of Hawks games in my life, with my dad using his season tickets. I classified myself current as a playoffs-only fan; a past hardcore. If I'm not allowed to root for the Hawks or relish in the title, my bad.

woodstox
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 25, 2013 -> 02:10 AM) But that's not the purpose of this thread. It is to blast Sox management for a horrible, horrible decision to go with Flowers, not to perpetuate the AJ legend. Hearing the ESPN announcers praise AJ and looking at his stats brought this to the surface. It pissed me off thinking of Flowers/all these unnecessary losses. Two serious questions: how many losses do you think are a direct result of Flowers' poor defensive play? I know of a few games off the top of my head he's actually helped WIN for the Sox so I'd like to understand why you make it sound like he's the main reason for the Sox's demise this season. Pitching is doing it's job mostly and from what I understand the staff likes how he manages them. Second question: what was A.J. like stat-wise when he finally got his chance as a starter? What's the norm for catchers? (OK maybe that's 3 questions) I'm seriously asking these because I don't know the answers, not because I necessarily am trying to prove you wrong. I haven't read this whole thread yet but I'm seeing errors and poor play all over the field and yet keep seeing people continue to act like one person is responsible for the majority of it. My gut is that unless he was hitting .300+ and had no errors that he was never going to get away from these AJ comparisons.

The reason I started this thread is it was Sunday night and I heard the announcers praising AJ, I saw he was hitting over .300 with good numbers and it reminded me of how he was ornery and probably wouldn't allow this horses*** defensive play to go on. I also looked at the black hole that is Flowers in the lineup and thought his bat would be a big time plus again this season. As much as I don't like Flowers, I wanted to blast the FRONT OFFICE for another lousy move that did not work. I think it's pretty obvious Flowers is a lousy everyday player, a decent sub probably and AJ's absence truly hurt this lineup and this team.
