Letting AJ walk was dumb idea

You could put Mike Trout from last year on this team and he wouldn't have a 15 game impact.

In slightly less than half a season, no less...

I value what AJ contributed as much as (almost) anyone, particularly his leadership. I also recognize that Tyler Flowers is horrible at everything a catcher should do well. But given where the roster and farm system is at, keeping him was a waste of time and money. He was also coming off of a career-type year in what should be the downhill slide of his career, so betting on that production again probably wasn't smart. I miss him, but it was time to move on.

ESPN praised AJ excessively during Sunday night game. He's hitting over .300 and is doing what AJ does.

Hahn or whomever who decided Flowers can play the game of baseball pretty much gets an F for that decision.

Considering we are in last place with major holes in our lineup, I'd say the decision to not pony up and sign AJ was one of the KEY reasons our team is an everyday embarrassment, a last-place AL Central team.

Yes, hindsight is 20/20 but these guys get paid big bucks to make decisions in the front office and the decision to let AJ go was PAINFUL. And don't say he could have signed. They didn't want him and everybody knows it. It was Flowers time and Flowers looks AWFUL (to this point).

AJ is actually just what this lineup needs. Our front office frustrates me.

Really???? This topic again......

Unfortunately, I think I'm going to have to deal with the myth of AJ for the rest of my life. Is this what it feels like to be a Bears fan?

But that's not the purpose of this thread. It is to blast Sox management for a horrible, horrible decision to go with Flowers, not to perpetuate the AJ legend. Hearing the ESPN announcers praise AJ and looking at his stats brought this to the surface. It pissed me off thinking of Flowers/all these unnecessary losses.

Hey wow am I sick of hearing about this.

I will agree that AJ is better than Flowers as long as we never have this thread again and you guys (the vocal AJ jerks) confess that AJ would not put this team anywhere near contention.

Fine. Don't even mention AJ. How bout a replacement for AJ that can, uh, actually catch the ball and hit the ball.

In Greg's mind the formula is

AJ+HAWK+OZZIE+TWTW=WS2013

No, I don't like the TWTW crap. The Blackhawks showed tonight they have the will to win, actually showing some heart and finishing off an opponent. Yet I'd rather call it 'heart' than a stupid line like TWTW.

I don't think this topic has come up at all. I wanted to mention it because it dawned on me after watching Sunday Night baseball this was a management gaffe of HUGE proportions.

Safe to say, this thread wouldn't exist if AJ weren't a player on the 2005 team.

I don't need to live in the past for championship fever, thanks to the Blackhawks. Love those guys for winning a second Cup in the last few years!!!

Yeah, it's nice to see a Chicago team win it all/get within reach, and then not immediately fade into obscurity.

Eventually you have to take a risk to find out what your future holds. This was the year to find out what Flowers was like. I'm sure the Pack could have held on to Favre a couple more yours but you have to take a risk and find out of the other guy is the real deal. You can't fault them for that. I doubt he would be hitting .300 in this lineup. Hitting in the Rangers lineup is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay different than hitting in this lineup.

Is AJ better than Flowers? Yes. Does Flowers seem like a bust? Yes. Would having AJ on the team this year take the Sox from 10.5 games under .500 to 4 games over .500? What the hell is wrong with you?

One guy, no matter who it is, wouldn't have made much of a difference to this team. Holding on to AJ would have cost about $7 or $8 million, and the Sox might be a couple games better. Then he would have been traded at the deadline...for next to nothing.

The Sox don't need to look to the past and wish they had kept AJ. They need to look to the future and figure out what to do about the catcher spot.

The Dodgers have Puig, Kemp (DL), Kershaw, Greinke, Ryu, Carl Crawford, Hanley Ramirez, Andre Ethier and Adrian Gonzalez and they're still 9 games under .500, and that's after winning 3 in a row.

Being 3-7 games under .500 would only give us a draft pick at 12 or 13 instead of 6 or 7.

Revenues produced would still be almost identical.

I would like to take this time to mention how right I was this offseason. Tyler Flowers is terrible. Just awful. To everyone who argued with me, I was right. You were wrong

Too bad they didn't resign him because 33-40 and 8.5 games back puts the Sox right in contention.

Resigning AJ was not the right move, so no, I don't agree with you that you're right. If they were in 2nd and 40-33, then yeah, sure, we can have this discussion. Until then, no, you're not right, and now the Sox know that they will need to find an upgrade over Flowers. Goal accomplished.

Heart translates a lot better in hockey.

Unfortunately, it's the one Chicago team nobody gives a s*** about.

It seemed like a lot of people gave a s*** when I was watching the games and the coverage and the massive amount of people that went out last night

There's hardcores in every sport. I'm sure there's hardcore wnba fans. Hockey will never be mainstream (in America).
