Brian Windhorst reporting that the Bulls will not trade Deng this season and have high hopes that they will re-sign him next summer.

That sound you just heard was every bulls fan throwing up at the same time, except Waygodai, and RZZZA

That would be the sound of the Bulls writing off this decade.

Don't get me wrong, you can win a championship with Deng, but you can't win a championship with Deng as your second most high paid player unless you got huge value out of some rookie deal. Bulls don't have that and likely won't.

For those talking about how bad the bulls are...yes they are bad, but if they ever get healthy, then you can finally tell me what their record is. My presumption is a healthy Bulls team isn't 3-12 without Rose. No Butler...No Deng...means bad things for the Bulls. And of course no Hinrich too but not near the impact the other two have, especially with Augustine looking like a solid pick-up. I really like the idea of trading Deng/Boozer for Pau and then trying to find a way to move Pau after that.

WOW AND THEY WANT TO BURN GOOD SALARY CAP ON A GUARANTEED INJURY-RISK AND DECLINE PLAYER. I'M DONE.

Even Zoom can't defend that s***. I hope this team gets horsef***ed by LeBron and the Heat every year until I'm dead. #forever90's

The 90s Bulls are about to become the 85 Bears.

in what sense? Are you really comparing 6 rings to 1?

Not that I would be ok with not winning additional titles, but for my lifetime, as a bulls fan, I feel like I am playing with house money. 6 championships in a lifetime is a lot more than 90% of fan-bases(in any sport) can hope for.

I think he meant in a "we're not going to win squat for a while and everyone is just going to be thinking about the good old days".

Civic icons to which no other franchise members can compare

Thank God for the Blackhawks and the s***iness of the Detroit Lions.

we're not going to win squat with the roster currently constructed.... but the following CAN happen...

Top 3-5 Bulls pick

11-15 Bobcats pick

Bring in Nikola

Amnesty Boozer

Rose returns to form (felt this way ever since the news that it was NOT an acl)

sign deng to lesser deal? (was not a fan of bringing deng back, but that depends on what what spots we land in the draft)

That team can contend. Every one of those scenarios is not as crazy as the 1.8% chance we struck years ago.

Relax dude, it's not even Christmas yet.

I said that I don't want Deng back unless he signs for less than 10 mil (or I guess maybe a frontloaded deal that pays him like 12 now and 8 at the end). I won't freak out until they sign him though.

I'm more worried that they'll be too cheap to amnesty Boozer and we're stuck with him for another year.I don't trust them to take advantage of his expiring deal and they need to start figuring out how good Mirotic is.

There's a big problem there. It's really, really, really tough to keep Deng, get a top draft pick, and have the money to bring in Mirotic. By my count, the Bulls have less than $10 million under the cap if they amnesthetize Boozer. Part of that gets chewed up by a draft pick. $5 million+ is probably required to bring Mirotic over. That leaves literally zero dollars for Luol Deng.

IIRC, the Bulls would have to renounce his Bird rights in order to be far enough under the cap to bring Mirotic over.

what about if the bulls sign deng before the picks? then sign the picks and get in the luxury tax(I know wishful thinking, but hypothetically speaking) but there's gotta be a way to bring in the new guys while keeping deng.

Disclaimer: Only interested in bringing in Deng at a discount.
