So...can we all take back the ridicule towards the FO for not making a deal? There was a lot of premature criticism up in here and the Bulls did a great job of not revealing their plan and not making a deal without getting what they were looking for, which is talent over savings. In the end, we got both. Great. All that for a freaking expiring contract.

In exchange for Deng, the Cavs send Chicago Bynum, Cleveland’s right to the Sacramento King’s first round draft pick conveyed in a June 30, 2011 deal, the right for Chicago to swap its own 2015 first round draft pick with the Cavs own 2015 first round draft pick (only in the case that the Cleveland 2015 first round draft pick is between 15 and 30) and the Portland Trail Blazer’s 2015 and 2016 second round draft picks acquired from the Trail Blazers via 2013 draft night trade.

Outstanding trade. Apparently the Bulls were doing some postering to try and nab more. Can't say it didn't work. Glad they changed their chance, although not being serious with an offer might of made this not surprising.

People tend to freak out. Like you did, I like to play the wait and see game but the Bulls front office has definitely earned their rep of sitting on their hands.

This is a great deal. Well done.

Bulls twitter:

Bulls convey contract of Luol Deng to Cavs for multiple draft picks & contract of Andrew Bynum http://bit.ly/1fa6OW9 pic.twitter.com/xe9vIdbllG

I'd say we're going to release him since the Bulls aren't even willing to admit that we not only received his contract, but the player himself as well

Okay, so apparently that first report wasn't totally accurate...

1) The Bulls are actually getting THREE picks. Two of them are second rounders owed to Cleveland from Portland.

2) They can also swap first rounders with Cleveland in 2015 if the Cavs' pick is outside the lottery.

3) Most importantly, the Kings' pick is significantly less sexy than I originally thought. From RealGM:

Sacramento's 1st round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 1-12 in 2014, 1-10 in 2015, 1-10 in 2016 or 1-10 in 2017; if Sacramento has not conveyed a 1st round pick to Cleveland by 2017, then Sacramento will instead convey its 2017 2nd round pick to Cleveland protected for selections 56-60 (if this pick falls within its protected range and is therefore not conveyed, then Sacramento's obligation to Cleveland will be extinguished) [Cleveland-Sacramento, 6/30/2011]

So basically if the Kings aren't outside the top-10 in any of the next 3 years (outside the top-12 this year isn't happening), they get a second round pick and it's possible they get jack-s***.

Love it...but what the s*** is Cleveland thinking? Vaults them into the 8th seed for no reason?

You get sick of being a s***ty team after a while. It's not like the high draft picks have been doing them a ton of good, anyway

As we are learning with the Charlotte pick, even a terrible franchise tends to get a pick outside the top 10 over the course of several years

Charlotte has the 12th worst record in the league right now, not exactly a lock to finish outside of the top-10. The Kings are nearly as inept as a franchise.

You know, if they really want to get into the lottery, let Bynum play.

Not a chance in hell. They will cut him by 4pm today. They have to in order to save the money and get out of the luxury tax.

My guess is Deng ends up playing along-side Kobe from next season onwards, he's the perfect sort of defensive glue guy they'd need next to him, and Mitch Kupchak would recognise that.

Think it was just a move that the Bulls had to make. If they end up with one of Wiggins, Randle or Parker as a replacement, you'd be pretty happy with that.

Whoa. Look who decided to join in... Good to see you posting.

And yeah, best case scenario is to tank this season, get a lottery pick, and snag one of these studs. Plus, possibly get another 1st rounder (or two) if Charlotte and/or Sacramento somehow finish outside the Top 10.
