Just got back from a Notre Dame/Michigan Tech hockey game. Tech set a record for most penalty minutes in a game by any ND opponent. They had something like 84 penalty minutes, and all spread out through the game. They had 4 players ejected on 3 different plays. I have not looked it up yet, but last time I noticed the Irish had 12 different power plays in the game. They won 7-3.

But the player I was following the most was Irish freshman center Vince Hinostrova. He was drafted by the Blackhawks last year. My unofficial scouting report says he is an undersized speedy guy who plays both sides of the puck. He made a lot of inaccurate passes though to screw up drives.

He ended his night with 2 goals and an assist, and was the #1 star of the game. He is a freshman, and he is one of the top offensive players on the #4 team in the country.

Corey Crawford can decide to finally show up for this season anytime.

Goales are like relievers in baseball. Paying them big money is silly unless they are complete monsters and prove it over the course of multiple seasons.

This is why I b****ed and moaned about signing Crawford to big money (for NHL salary cap reasons). He's just not elite.

I think he's been fine this year, Saturday's stinker aside. If you are expecting a repeat of last season, then don't hold your breath, it ain't gonna happen. But he has gotten the job done IMO.

Agreed and it wasn't a very Bowman-esque move so I was surprised. By all accounts, revenues are increasing so the salary cap will increase as well, so the contract might not hurt that much. But if the cap doesn't increase, it could cause some issues when #19 & #88 need new contracts soon.

I feel like they are like starters in baseball. It is difficult to fathom a player that can be more singularly game-changing and worth the money, but they often regress for no obvious reason and it is difficult to see coming in advance. And while the best are very hard to come by, there is always some guy waiting around that can have a pretty damn good season out of nowhere and at a big discount; so when the regression hits, you have a very cost inefficient goalie situation.

Brandon Pirri promoted to 2nd line. Eat a dick, Handzus.

Hey, it's nothing against Handzus. I like him as a 4th liner and in a certain role, I think you'd agree. He didn't come here saying he was a 2nd line center, they just forced him there. It's more like, eat a dick Bowman, and thanks Q for finally not being stubborn about it. You have to give Pirri a shot here. Someone has to be an answer.
