Has goaltending been an issue this season? Why can't Ranta gets some playing time much like Emery did last season?

Well, the Blackhawks signed Corey Crawford to a ridiculously terrible contract when he's an average goaltender at best, and now they're stuck throwing him out there for the bulk of playing time at the position. They have a dirt cheap goaltender on the roster with an identical save percentage, but decided Crawford needs to be the third highest paid player on our team behind Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews next season (which coincidentally is the last year that those two SUPERSTARS are under contract before they can test UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENCY).

Crawford is signed through his age 36 season (thef***!?!?!) at SIX MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR.

Please, more people in the know, tell me once again how this contract wasn't a f***ing mistake of epic proportions?

It's been a combination of shoddy defense and mediocre goaltending at times. Crawford missed nearly all of December, so Raanta got 12 straight starts then. Now they are getting Crawford going again, and there's a 3 week break coming up, so I don't think fatigue is a big worry right now.

Speaking of Emery, I bet he's regretting the decision to choose Philly over Chicago now. Mason has won the #1 job and Emery suddenly doesn't look so good without the Stanley Cup champs in front of him.

He got a $500k raise to go there. He wasn't getting that in Chicago.

Are you sure about that? Emery's salary with Philly is $1.65 million. Khabi got $1.7 million from the Hawks, I would think they were willing to give Emery something similar. I thought his decision was all about having a chance to earn a starting job and showcase for a big payday this offseason.

Defense has been weak at times this year. Not sure what is going on back there.

I was at the Hawks-Wild game last night, dude a few rows in front of me was wearing a Jocelyn Thibault jersey.

Congrats, you win this round of spot the non-bandwagoner.

I loved Thibault, thought we were set when we got him from Montreal.

Hawks seem to be in a mid-season lull. Effort just doesn't look there, lots of sloppy play.

I'm also getting ready to see Raanta start getting some more ice time, even with Crawford healthy.

Real bad effort in 3rd period tonight.

Hawks cannot keep giving away games to s***ty teams like the Jets. With the way the Sharks, Blues and Ducks have been playing, the Hawks could very well drop to the 4 or 5 seed if they're not careful.

They changed the playoff format back to a divisional setup instead of the 1-8 conference setup. The top three teams in each divison qualify, then the next two teams in the conference make it as "wild cards". Barring a first round upset, the Hawks & Blues are on a crash course to face in the second round, even if they were the best two teams in the conference. If the playoffs ended today, the matchups would be:

Central:

Blackhawks (1) vs. Canucks (1st WC)

Blues (2) vs. Avalanche (3)

Pacific:

Ducks (1) vs. Wild (2nd WC)

Sharks (2) vs. Kings (3)

The winner of each divisional round face off in the Western Conference Finals

My bad. I totally missed that somehow. Either way, they could still end up falling below the Avalanche and gaining the 3 seed in the Central.

Agreed about the losses. Other than home ice in a potential game 7, the real battle vs. the Blues is to avoid the Avalanche in round 1 by winning the division. Hawks haven't had the best success vs. Colorado recently, would like to avoid them in the first round.

I just saw that Bickell was a healthy scratch last night, not exactly earning that new contract so far. I had assumed he was out with injury.

I wonder if maybe he isn't a little banged up or something. Even the games he's been playing he's only been getting 8-9 minutes a game.

Tracey Myers ‏@TramyersCSN 2h

#Blackawks lines revamped: 10-19-81, 23-37-88, 20-65-29, 52-16-28. Looks like Handzus may be odd man out of I'm seeing this right.

Ooh, interested to see what that Versteeg/Pirri/Kane line can do.

He's back in the lineup tonight. No better time to get some confidence back than against the lowly Flames.

Yea judging by Coach Q's comments, it sounds like he's not been real happy with Bickell lately.

Bickell has not been playing up to that new contract at all.

And this team cannot f***ing finish. Any time the game goes in to the 3rd period and the Hawks aren't up by at least 2 goals, I get extremely worried. And obviously we are just a joke in overtime this season.
