It will be fun watching these kids gel. If it works, this is how you can sustain true elite success in today's NHL. Gotta keep hitting on picks/trades.

The Red Wings model come to life. Hold on to your superstars, trade your 2nd and 3rd tier players for draft picks, and draft/develop well.

That third line with Saad moving back to RW and Morin on LW will be great

Well - no. The Red Wings "model" existed in an area without strict salary caps in place

With the current salary cap, that's the only way to do it. Hold on to your top talent, everyone else is expendable. It's why Pittsbugh has five guys talking up almost half their cap, it's why Anaheim gave Getzlaf & Perry so much cash.

The league is expected to announce its players will participate in the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia, next February.

On the heels of that announcement, which could come as soon as Thursday if the NHL, its players' association, the International Olympic Committee and the International Ice Hockey Federation can work out the final details, will be the release of the 2013-14 regular-season schedule.

It's likely the schedule will be released the same day as the Olympic announcement and will provide an intriguing look at how the NHL will shut down for the Games and also showcase life after NHL realignment, where each team will face every other in a set of home-and-home games.

As much as Bettman threatened to say no, there was no way he was gonna stop the players from going out there. The time zone is not as convenient as Vancouver was, but it's still good marketing. Plus, guys like Ovi already said they were going over no matter what.

Steve's favorite prospect Beach is back. One year deal. Could be on the 4th line this year as make or break year for him.

The Blackhawks have agreed to terms with forward Kyle Beach on a one-year contract, the team announced today.

Beach, 23, earned 26 points in 66 regular-season games with the Rockford IceHogs in 2012-13 and led the team with a career-high 204 penalty minutes.

Beach was originally selected by Chicago in the first round, 11th overall, of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Bickell (AHL)

Sochi is 9 hours ahead of EST. So if they have the US/Canada primarily playing late evening games local time that's going to be mid-late morning games in North America.

We have alot of similarities with the wings dynasty (top center/captain, top D men, etc)

God damn if I don't still hope Kyle Beach figures it out. He was drafted like 30 years ago - so much so at the time he was called the next "Todd Bertuzzi" like anyone would use that reference any more.

I think we both gave up hope a long time ago.

Kyle Beach would be an amazing Men's League addition. That's about it.

Study finds that since NHL supposedly began penalizing hits to the head, concussions in the league have actually gone up rather than down, and only 28% of concussions actually occurred on plays where the hit drew a penalty. The most common type of hit to cause a concussion is a body check, and those hits aren't penalized.

Reading their methods, I'm not convinced they were able to adequately deal with the possibility that the new rules resulted in players being more forthcoming with concussion reports.
