Chicago White Sox
I think there's no doubt the Cardinals make the best trade partner for us. They have both quality and depth, with several prospects ready for the big leagues right now. I would love to get Adams from them, but any of Wong, Martinez, & Wacha would be able to help us next year. That's what separates them from other trading partners outside of Arizona (who I don't see as actually being interested in Peavy). Also, if we trade them Peavy & Ramirez, that puts some pressure on the Pirates to make a move, which could help us in a potential Rios or De Aza deal. mike65
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:40 PM) You have to think the Cardinals are seriously involved in the process. If they're not the favorite they're close to it. In the last couple weeks we have heard Adams, Wacha, Martinez, Wong, Kelly, Blazek and maybe more names that I am missing. From the other teams, I think we heard Middlebrooks who was later shut down. Please correct me if I am wrong or missed something here. I don't think there is any doubt that the Cardinals are involved; even the lazy scribes in STL have said as much. What has always had me puzzled is how far Mozeliak would go to accomplish a trade. Cardinal fans are quite fond of the team's #1 farm system ranking. I think he likes the condition of the Cardinal minor leagues but he has a team that can win this year so I think he is torn. Mathey loves Kozma but I don't think Mo has ever felt that Kozma is a SS on a championship club. I like Matheny but sometimes Mo has to save him from himself. Matheny kept using Boggs and losing games until Mo had enough and sent Boggs to Memphis. It is the same with Kozma. The Cards would have to bring a high dollar SS before Matheny stops playing Kozma. Mo brought Rzepsynzki up last week and Matheny hasn't used him once. I said all that to say that Mo will do what he thinks is best for this year's roster and I don't think he would hesitate to trade a couple of prospects for what he believes are upgrades. Whether he has offered enough, only time will tell. He traded a top prospect last year when he traded Zack Cox for Mujica. Mo palys to win. Y2Jimmy0
Jayson Stark @jaysonst 1m White Sox haven't shown interest in eating any of Peavy's $ (close to $24M left). That & health were big issues for Atl, Bal, StL & even LA

ShandyMan
Why come out and say you'll eat salary at first? Get a good offer, then tell them you'll eat X amount of dollars, and get a better offer.

That & health were big issues for Atl, Bal, StL & even LA That is infuriating if true. JR would be just plain cheap if this is the case. We are going to be potential shedding Rios, Ramirez, and Peavy's contract and we can't kick in some money to get us premium talent??

I honestly believe getting Peavy & Ramirez would put you guys over the top. I get how cool it is to have a #1 farm system, but Sox fans know better than anyone that a system can crash and burn quickly and if you're scared to move prospects for proven players you'll regret it more often that not in the end. If I were Mo, I wouldn't pass on improving my chance for another World Series title unless the Sox's asking price was beyond ridiculous. If it can get you a better package of prospects then you do it. Like others have said though, no reason to jump to conclusions yet. Everything is a negotiating ploy at this point, I'll reserve judgement until a trade is completed. Edited July 28, 2013 by Rowand44
Jake
You get to that last spot in negotiations and then you offer 5 mill for that last Kolten Wong-type guy to get put into the deal

iamshack
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 02:16 PM) Hopefully that's the angle they're looking for rather than being stubborn and cheap. Well, if a team doesn't have the flexibility that may not be a negotiation point that can wait; that may be an initial parameter that must be set. But yeah, that is something where you keep negotiating with the other teams and then try to force the team with low payroll flexibility to come over the top of the others with a stronger personnel package. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 28, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) We are hearing actual teams and prospect names today, though. And I don think Peavy would say he felt like today was his last day and bring all the luggage if Hahn didn't tell him that something was up. At some point, Hahn has to pull the trigger. You can't go to Wednesday with all of your guys still here. You need to start pulling the trigger and then move your focus to other guys that need to be moved. Once Peavy goes, I think it opens up other teams potential need to go after a Dunn or Rios, imo.
