I don't think that is correct. Too many times in the past people on this board and have said we received too llittle in trades. Just because a trade can be made doesn't mean it's a god one.

The team sucks and clearly needs to sell. It is the right course of action given the information we have. While we certainly might be upset later at the execution, it isn't unreasonable to hope for the FO to take the right course of action.

If someone takes Peavy, can we throw in Axelrod as a door prize? I never want to see him throw another pitch for the Sox again

Axelrod is the kind of guy you want to keep around the rest of the year to eat innings so the guys you're actually counting on for 2014 and beyond don't get overworked. You can always DFA him in March.

I'm basing it on the names associated with St. Louis. Wong, Martinez, etc. I would be more than happy with them coming back for Alexi and Jake. I'd also be more than happy to keep both if the return is lame. I don't get why people errantly assume others opinions. I've been saying I want to trade with St.Louis based on their farm ranking and names rumored. Take it easy bro, it'll be okay.

You have explained yourself well. I've extracted what I want out of you.

No way they can handle the salary. Plus, outside of XXqalctz, I'm not enamored with any of their position players.

Well that's because he's overhyped by the media, don't listen to that drivel. He has Shane Spencer or Gypford Gomfrey written all over him.

I am interested in Marvin though. I know the Sox don't have a huge need for pitching, but he's got a freakin laser.

I dont get why people are just errantly hoping for a trade

You have to hear what the trade is and then decide if you like it or not.

Certainly I don't want anymore giveaways like we did with Jackson.

But I think Hahn, assuming he's given free reign, should be skilled enough to get offers at least equal to what the Cubs got. And we should take one of those offers.

Plus, this "We can build around Peavy" stuff, while likely just GM-speak, is still just, well, too absurd to be believed.

Or even a "good" one. :P

Sometimes we treat these prospects ratings AS IF they are science and not art. They might have some objective facts behind them, and some consensus-think, but for the most part they are a mix of objective, subjective, projection, and personal feelings. Art. Not science. I don't want anybody's #1, #2, or #3 just because some service or mag rate them as such. Joe Borchard was once a #1. The now disfavored Mike Olt was a can't touch #1 as well.

I want MORE than what Garza returned because Peavy is better (IMO), and to a contender who believes they're a contender in 2014 too, Peavy gives them a top-tier starter for 2014 at what is likely a fair contract rate. So, more than Garza is required. But exactly what equals "more," is very subjective. I'd imagine that Hahn is telling people "more than Garza" as his threshold return, but the subjectivity of the whole thing gives him all the wiggle-room he could ever want.

I don't want a trade of Peavy for the sake of trading Peavy. IMO, you show strength by saying "you want this potentially valuable asset for your stretch run (and for 2014) ... then give us a fair return. End of story."

Both Cards and Red Sox have the need, farms, and bank -- one of these two will take him today.

The fact that we could probably continue this for at least 4 more exchanges and no one would complain says a lot about how little information exists in this thread :P

(_dudeabides_) @(_teammoniker_) 1m

(_name_) to start for #(_team_) in place of (_name_) vs. #(_opposingteam_). Doesn't mean (_name_) has been/will be traded. But he's been scratched

I figure doing what can be done to ease the tension is the best thing to do right now. We might find out in the next hour that Peavy has been traded, or we could go another 27 and a half hours and find out that he wasn't traded at all. Beating yourself up over it is just a waste of time at this point

Supposedly Oakland's plan if they got Peavy, was to trade him this winter.

So Beane probably offered less than they could get for him this winter, hoping to rent him for free, and perhaps a little profit, the last 2/3 months.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 08:50 AM)
The White Sox and just about every other team throw misinformation out there. Things are leaked that they want leaked. Very little legitimate trade talk has ever been out there about the White Sox the last several years. Hahn is a new GM. He has an opportunity to make a reputation. Like has been stated, this is like a card game. Having a reputation as a guy who doesn't bluff can make you a big winner, and it doesn't necessarily mean you don't bluff.

You didn't even respond to what i said. You said " don't say one day "we will keep him and build around him" or have it floated out there, and the next, hold him from his start because you may trade him. I understand all of the misinformation that is out there, and realize most GMs know what is real and what is not, but if you are going to say it, make it at least appear as real as possible.

Which means you took something someone said about what Hahn supposedly said and applied it to Hahns actions of keeping PV from starting. That means you beleive Hahn is directly responsible for that piece of misinformation and he contradicts himself by starting PV. That just shows me you don't "understand all of the misinformation that is out there."

So pretty much every team says they are "out" on Peavy. Probably doesn't mean anything, but interesting....Hahn must be being a real pain in the ass.

Bob Nightengale, who really is one of the better ones with White Sox info, says the Cardinals are still very interested in Peavy.
