ChiliIrishHammock24
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 02:03 PM) Nobody would care if he was DFAd tomorrow as long as he is an OF. His one inning pitching is the only thing he's done worth mentioning. Yep. I don't know how the hell would would EVER replace him if he blew out his arm on the mound. 5th OFers are so hard to come by these days. caulfield12
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 12:00 PM) It would be interesting and compelling to see him blow out his arm like Canseco did, wouldn't it? Then we would need another bench player. Oh that would be awesome. Rich and Compelling He's the one that ASKED, practically BEGGED, to pitch. I think he knows the risks. A bulky, steroids-bloated slugger vs. Casper Wells, almost the same, pretty much.

caulfield12
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) He begged? Bullpen coach Bobby Thigpen looked at him and asked, "What do you got?"Thigpen was surprised when the outfielder started listing off his pitches. He was not surprised that Wells had those pitches, but more surprised that Wells was getting ready to throw and not just delivering a message to the bullpen. At least someone has TWTW. How is but more surprised that Wells was getting ready to throw and not just delivering a message to the bullpen that not showing that it was his idea to pitch, that he volunteered rather than being asked. Maybe begged would be pushing it, but with how our team has sucked raw eggs, it's nice to think that someone wants to contribute and help out. caulfield12
QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 03:48 PM) TCTC The capacity to compel Because that has worked so well with DeAza, Ramirez, Viciedo, Keppinger, Rios and Flowers/Gimenez this year on defense. Heck, surprised they couldn't compel Paulie to come back early from his back injury....the Hermie Schneider Vulcan Death Grip Compulsion Back Treatment. The Ultimate Champion
Paulie only plays hurt when the games matter. That's that football player toughness that has always worked out so well for us.

Maybe begged would be pushing it, but with how our team has sucked raw eggs, it's nice to think that someone wants to contribute and help out. Not sure that how translates to him asking. Seems pretty clear that all it meant was Thigpen being unaware that a position player was being sent to warm up. You're making quite a leap in your assumptions with really nothing there to back it up.

"Hey skip, if we are ever getting blown out and you don't want to waste innings on a bullpen arm, I'd love to come in and pitch an inning or two to save some miles on guys' arms." This is most likely the conversation Wells had with Ventura.
