dasox24
QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jun 30, 2013 -> 02:34 PM) First, knowing J4L this is all going exactly to his plan. There's no frustration on his behalf in regards to the team, believe me. He masterfully threw out the bait and sat in the corner twiddling his thumbs awaiting the bites. However, as one of those 10yr veterans of Soxtalk this thread is an example of EXACTLY the time of atmosphere that existed in the "golden age" (definitely from 2003-2004). Reflecting back, I recall Old Roman, BMR, Cluer, Beastly (or WSC), JimH constantly instigating trouble and riling up everyone. There was no message board decor or rules, it was literally the equivalent of a youtube comments section. Also, consider that 10-11 years ago when this site began most of the active members were in the 16-25 age range. I'm sure this same age range is represented across all message boards. Most within this group were either in school or just finishing and had the available free time to regularly post. Now, consider a decade passing; these same people have careers and families draining their lives and free time. I was 18 when I joined here, and having just started college my time was devoted to not only following the White Sox and our minor league system, but those of other teams. Enough to where, when draft time came around I could have probably created my own Top 30 draft board. Now, I'm practically baseball retarded outside the White Sox. With my career and other obligations I'm lucky to post once a week. This issue isn't on the Soxtalk moderators, really. Through the years an unexpected incident would arise that would ban a few people, and as a result new rules would form. It's the natural progression of any site. It probably helped this place survive so long. I've always felt, the chat room is where the fun is. I remember numerous nights of past years where several of us would be up long after the end of a game. Unfortunately, I haven't been around to promote it and I don't believe others have had the motivation, either. Personally, I'm content with Soxtalk. I still check this board every day even if I don't post, and I'm sure other old-timers do the same. There's always a new influx of posters to replace those that have since stopped contributing. Without it, there'd just be Fathom and ss2k5 talking to themselves. But as always, f*** WSI. That sentiment hasn't changed over time. So it looks like I originally missed this thread because, not surprisingly, I don't check the PHT very often anymore. But, very well said, Flash. You nailed it. Oh, and I loved the bolded sentence. Too funny. 10 years ago I used to hang out on this site all the time. I was 15 and had not a care in the world. After school/sports practices, I'd come home and chill on SoxTalk for awhile. Hell, a select few of us would be up until 2-3am every night during the summers. Just can't do it anymore. I do read SLaM and the Sports forum on a daily basis, though. Just don't post often. Miss all of you guys. DBAH0 still around? Haven't seen much from him. Edited July 18, 2013 by dasox24

Still posting late however, just not as frequently as the 18-23 year old me did. And yea Andrew still peaks in every blue moon I believe (wouldn't know my damn self cause I do the same). Had the pleasure of meeting and drinking with the aussie last year. He's brilliant.
southsider2k5
Speaking of the departed, today is Brando's birthday. For those who don't know the admin/mod side of things, that guy tried seriously at least 100 times to sign up and post on Soxtalk after he was banned. He was persistent if nothing else. I guess I still stay up pretty late (once a night owl, always a night owl) but I don't spend that time on SoxTalk. And good to hear about Andrew. qwerty
At a point in this thread it was questioned as to if the times were indeed ever golden. Golden is a word that is thrown around in excess quite like the word epic. Epic once had a rather signifigant meaning until the overuse starting occuring during the time of the internet. Now, it has become nothing more than a shell of its former self. Anyway, times were once a blast around here. To me there was an abundance of different personalities at some point in time, which really made this place have a spark. For the good and bad. Really far ends of the spectrum in some cases. Maybe we were zanier? Or could it be passion drove us more? I like to think it was a little bit of both. The loss of "The Cheat" was huge for me. Since Kalapse hardly posts I no longer have anyone to mentor (for those new around the place he is supposedly the brains around these parts) so that makes me sad. Wite has not had any of those patended eight to twelve pargraph posts in years it seems. What's up with that? Greg has toned it down. I was always like fathom, though now he seems to blend in here. Years ago, he stuck out like a sore thumb, and his thoughts were much needed to balance out the homerism. Much more realistic person I believe than he was ever given credit for. The basketball thread I will always speak ill of. There are only three posters in there that consistently know what they are talking about, and two others that are generally pretty on the money. Whenever I am feeling down I go to that thread because it's like one of those movies that are so schlocky that you actually find something enjoyable despite you not wanting to. You know what I'm talking about, everyone has one. I guess things are not all that bad when I think about it. The last really exciting thing that happened to me is a few years ago JimH did call me out to fight him in person. While claming I am a drunkard piece of scum. A drunkard I am not. Creepiest thing about it is he did so on another site (chicagonow) after I mentioned him in a thread here. Apparently he had taken whatever trivial thing I said about him to heart. Hardly something worth calling a person out to a fight for in my opinion. Do the rumors hold true that he wears daisy duke type shorts along with a tank top to show his midriff at the games? I know some of you have had to bump into him over the years. Seems to me that is the only way I would have heard that was his clothing style of choice.
