GreenSox
QUOTE (Knuckles @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:18 PM) On Crain: #WhiteSox and #Rays will negotiate cash/player combo going to CWS over next several weeks. -- ROSENTHAL Haven't we lost our leverage by doing it that way? Doesn't sound like it was that complicated of a trade.
justBLAZE
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 05:23 PM) Haven't we lost our leverage by doing it that way? Doesn't sound like it was that complicated of a trade. More on Crain return to #WhiteSox. It is NOT contingent on how much he pitches. Again, player/cash combo to be settled over next few weeks. -- ROSENTHAL
Rowand44
Return not contingent on how much Crain pitches. This is bizarre.
Rowand44
So basically as long as Jesse is back out there within a few weeks we get a certain return I take it?
justBLAZE
#WhiteSox have a pool of players to look at with #Rays. Hahn doesn't want to characterize those prospects now. -- HAYES
Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 11:25 PM) Return not contingent on how much Crain pitches. This is bizarre. Noonskadoodle
Enny Romero Jeff Ames Tim Beckham I would be happy with any of those 3. I also really like Ryan Brett: Brett may actually be even smaller than his listed size of 5-foot-9, 180 pounds. But what he lacks in size, he makes up for in hustle. His motor elicits comparisons to Pete Rose. Brett has a short, compact swing that allows him to make a lot of contact. And he has more power than his size would suggest, but it still grades as below average. Brett is a plus runner and knows how to steal a base. He has improved his defense and is a capable second baseman. ^^^MLB Hitting .335 .388 OBP only 26 Ks to 13 BBs 21 SBs. Seems we have our fair share of guys who like to whiff, could switch it up a bit with him. I feel just him back in return though is a little underwhelming, so I'd take one of the first 3 before him. oldsox
I am listening to the Tampa - Boston game, hoping the Rays' announcers will say something. Not yet.
oldsox
The Tampa deal reminds of when we got Carl Everett (first time) from Rangers, and we had A slew of prospects that they could pick out for their six players. It took a few days before it was leaked who the available players were.

Well, the Tampa announcers just discussed the trade, but did not say anything about who the Rays will give up.
caulfield12
UPDATE, 6:27: Rays executive VP Andrew Friedman said it is "too early to speculate on exactly when" Crain will be ready to resume pitching but he had extreme confidence the Rays medical staff can make it happen. Friedman said when healthy, Crain "is among the best relief pitchers in the game,'' noting his ability to get out right- and left-handers. Crain is expected to join the Rays on Wednesday. The compensation likely won't be worked out until after the season, though Friedman said the framework is in place. UPDATE, 5:34: The Rays have made the deal offiicial, and announced it for "players to be named later or cash considerations.'' The Rays added Crain to the 40-man roster but kept him on the 15-day DL. To make room on the 40-man roster, they shifted Brandon Gomes to the 60-day DL, though he is close to being reinstated. UPDATE, 5:22: The Rays are giving up future considerations, likely tied to how much Crain pitches. tampabay.com/sports

greg775
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:08 PM) I love this deal in that all the people yearning for something to happen essentially dont get what they wanted, even right now Gives them more time to speculate on a whole bunch of minor league players, though. The mystery will go on and on for quite a while.

Jake
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 29, 2013 -> 09:12 PM) FWIW, Boston's message board applauds the Rays' trade of Crain and seem disappointed they could not do the same. Easy to say when it seems like the trade was for nothing
