Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (Kalapse @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 06:35 PM) A team can waive, at most, 7 players a day in August. That too, just saying there is a reason Rios wasn't put on immediately.
CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Aug 8, 2013 -> 11:29 AM) Cleveland? Maybe he wanted him to clear waivers. In that case, this is much ado over nothing. They did just DFA Mark Reynolds but Rios doesnt play the positions Reynolds does.

Damn there goes that theory. I just saw that play where the ball goes off the wall and between his legs in RF. Gets me every time haha

Texas would be a good trading partner if they were desperate enough to fill Cruz's position.

Andy the Clown
There's no point in just letting him go. 1) Get Garcia in the lineup and let him make adjustments at the major league level. He has nothing to prove at AAA. 2) Get $15 million off the books, and go about trying to fix 1B or 3B.

Trade him this winter to get at least something back or gamble he has a good start next year and trade him at the 2014 deadline.

I dont know how much you've looked at the upcoming free agent class, but there isn't a fix there for either position
greg775
Like somebody said earlier, Hahn allegedly wanted a return of prospects for Rios before the trade deadline. In Hahn's world, he might look stupid just letting him go for salary relief now.

ChiSox_Sonix
As much as I'd like to get Rios' contract off the books, I hope Hahn doesn't let him go for nothing. Something about him trying to obtain an exorbitant package for him in return a week ago only to be followed up with him essentially "giving up" and letting him go for nothing, makes me worry about how he may be perceived by other GMs in the future and if it could negatively affect him in trying to make deals in the future.
