greg775
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 12:48 AM) Well, just for the record, as much as I never liked Dayan, I like what I see out of Garcia. He'll probably never be an absolute stud because of the aggressiveness, but I think the Maggio comparison is a good one minus the plate discipline. He does have a bit more speed than Magglio had though. You mean he swings too hard to be an absolute stud? Or what are you saying? If he's known as Little Miggy he should copy Miggy more. caulfield12
Both Garcia and Viciedo have a ton of hand load and long swings when they're getting too aggressive and trying to hit homers. It's a constant struggle for Dayan to cut down on his swing and take what the pitcher gives him....but, on the plus side, he does have the bat speed and nobody doubts his oppo field power and swing, when he's locked in. It is just that he has been so inconsistent in terms of getting locked in and falling back into bad habits. We've talked over and over again about how he misses good fastballs when his swing gets out of whack. If both could cut down on their swings, learn to go the opposite way more often like Puig does, that would go a LONG ways towards making both high quality/dangerous hitters. They need to have a second hitting coach, like Walker/Scott Fletcher in ATL. Because Baines isn't enough, IMO. hi8is
I know this isn't popular opinion but I still want Big Frank as a secondary hitting coach. He'd be great in helping players refine their approach.

caulfield12
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 11, 2013 -> 09:58 AM) Rios helped Texas win in his debut with them. 2 for 3 with a triple Figures. When do we know for sure if L. Garcia has gone unclaimed or not??? Some GM out there is really going to piss off BOTH Hahn and Daniels if they try to block them. SHOULD UPDATE THE THREAD TITLE...seems it will definitely be Garcia at this point MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports that the Rangers will send Leury Garcia to the White Sox in the Alex Rios deal. They're announcing it as a player to be named later now only so Garcia doesn't have to pass through waivers. Garcia has some speed and should have a future as a utility player, but he's only a career .261/.310/.347 hitter in the minors, so the Rangers didn't give up much. flavum
Leury Garcia is active on the Round Rock roster, but hasn't played since Thursday, so maybe they are trying to get him through waivers and he'll be moved over here in the next couple days. Hopefully there's a gentleman's agreement in the industry not to interfere in this case.

Soxfest
White Sox acquired INF Leury Garcia from the Rangers as the player to be named later in the Alex Rios trade. Garcia passed through waivers, making his reported move to Chicago official. A career .261/.310/.347 hitter in the minors, the 22-year-old's future is likely as a utility player. He's been assigned to Triple-A Charlotte. Per Rotoworld
Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Aug 10, 2013 -> 04:56 PM) Why? Morneau hates the Sox. There was a reported story from a few years back when the Sox got Griffey JR. Morneau saw KW in the parking lot and shouted, "What, Lou Gehrig wasn't available?". I personally have no interest in Morneau anyway. His concussion history scares the hell out of me. Also, why are people convinced that the Sox are going to turn around and overpay for big name free agents this offseason? It's just not going to happen and I think many on this board are going to be very upset. Do people really want the Morales, Granderson's, McCanns, or Corey Harts of the world on multiyear deals? They are in their 30's. It just id not smart business. Rick Hahn knows better than this.
pktmotion
That's such an underwhelming return for Rios. I don't have a problem if the Sox are calling this a salary dump, which it is, but please hold someone accountable. You can't keep making mistakes on top of other mistakes and hope your fanbase doesn't catch wind of your flawed organization.

Dick Allen
I thought people want to be like the Cardinals. Don't they sign over 30 hitters as free agents? The thing is, most players when they become free agents are at about 30 or over. For every good addition Hahn makes this next offseason, it will mean one less is needed to win it all. He needs to take what makes sense, and if the Sox think they will compete in 2014 or 2015 some of these guys make sense. To totally ignore them is totally against their policy of trying to improve the team. They probably won't get Ellsbury or McCann, but I would be shocked if they didn't make an attempt at Morales. And for all those who think no one wants to play for the Sox, that couldn't be farther from the truth. I don't want them to sign any of these guys to ridiculous contracts, but I do want them to try to acquire a couple of free agents to make the team competitive again. I know Morneau supposedly hates the Sox, but if they somehow acquired a guy like him to play 1B and got McCann to catch split some time at DH/1B, and they can piece together a bullpen, they can easily be contenders again next year and still be in a position to continue to retool and improve more for 2015. caulfield12
As long as Balta is in charge of fundamentals and Josh Phegley improvements in 2014 Spring Training, things will go quite smoothly.
