Joe Nathan is being shopped by the Rangers for an established hitter, other teams say. More than just internal talks.

That's not good for the Rios talks. Damn you Rangers

Maybe a 3 team deal where Rios goes to Rangers, Nathan goes to another contender, and Sox get prospects. It would be odd for a contender to make a deal with another contender involved though (and who else would want to be involved). Only logical thing would be the 3rd team being in the NL.

With Texas' offense really struggling, a Cruz suspension looming, Berkman likely not producing anymore this season, falling more and more behind Oakland, and being shut out for the 3rd time today in four games (That's almost White Sox offense bad), a Dunn, Rios, and $$$ to Texas trade is starting to make too much sense. It would be two big upgrades to what they currently have at DH/LF and wouldn't cost them as much as a trade for someone like Pence would (how much more are they really willing to deplete their system after the Garza trade).

I sure hope so.

He has an .876 ops. More homers, better batting average and better on base percentage than Rios and makes $10 million a year less.

A long, long track record is relevant here

The attractiveness of a guy like Schierholtz in the trade market is that you WOULDN'T have to trade a guy like Hanson to get him

No its not, its for 2 months, and it isn't like Rios has a stellar track record. I don't know if that is going to be the deal, but it makes a lot more sense than trading him for Rios.

Kinda funny cause it seems like none if the media anywhere has picked up on Hanson getting pulled yet.

Probably because minor leaguers get pulled from games all the time and it normally doesn't mean anything

And this one probably doesn't mean anything

Schierholtz career WAR - 6.5

career high prior to this season - 1.3

this season - 2.1

Rios career WAR - 25.4

career high - 5.5

this season - 2.0

seasons over 2.1 - 6 (seventh in progress)

They're not even in the same ballpark

Not to mention trading within the division. If you're the Cubs you don't give a crap who you're trading to but if you're the Pirates in that situation, giving up a top prospect to a division rival when there are similar/better players out there would be odd.

I agree but there seemed to be media all over it last time he was pulled, granted Rios was pulled at the same time so there was quite a lot going on.
