Leonard Zelig
QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) You don't get good specs then what's the point of dealing him?? $$$
Balta1701
QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:32 PM) $$$ We can shed his money by doing a waiver wire trade or just putting him on waivers if it's that important.

CaliSoxFanViaSWside
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 12:16 PM) I still think it's in the DNA of the Yankees and the Rangers to make a move today. Whether it's Rios... we'll have to see. If the Rangers don't make a move they are essentially good with not winning this year.
Dick Allen
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:30 PM) And a dead clock is correct twice a day. Look, if you just rip on every single player we have, you're going to be more correct than not these days. The problem is Greg's rationale for these opinions he has...which is nonsense almost in each and every case. His rationale may not always be correct, none of ours are, but it is exactly what we are seeing on twitter now as to the reason this best bat on the market, an impact bat, better than average defender with a lower than market rate contract, is not all that popular with the rest of the league. flavum
Hayes: Alex Rios seated at a table in #WhiteSox clubhouse. Looks pretty calm with deadline 24 minutes away.
Jake
The truth is that teams have no issues taking on contracts in the offseason when they have a clean slate, but they never like to take on money in mid-season deals
Dick Allen
The year Nomar got traded to the Cubs, weren't there a bunch of trades announced right at the deadline and after?

Jake
I'm imagining Rios sitting there feeling very uncomfortable as all the beat writers stare at him

Following Twitter is silly right now. I mean, if I am a GM or executive or lowly bug on a wall in one of these rooms, the first thing I am going to do is respond to text messages from nosy reporters. Boston picked up Peavy, but their purge last year left them with what I assume is a lot of wiggle room. The Dodgers can pick up cash, other than that, it seems it would be tough to move big contracts without taking big contracts back. I read a couple weeks ago, the well is even drying up in Detroit. Dick Allen
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) I would go with living months out of a suitcase and always traveling through different time zones but yeah, the staring... I don't know, they barely have to touch their luggage, don't have to fly commercial and have a lot of down time. The staring would bother me, as would answering the same questions over and over again.
flavum
Pretty obvious teams aren't giving up anything for Rios. Hopefully a team will just claim him in August and they can get the payroll cleared. But even then, I'll believe it when I see it.
Knackattack
Hahn is probably going to keep these guys to ensure we keep losing and snag that #1 pick, we won Peavy's 2 starts since he returned from the DL so he had to go.

Hopefully a team will just claim him in August and they can get the payroll cleared. But even then, I'll believe it when I see it. It would be very, very dumb for us to just let him go to save money. He's a good player that will have value at the next deadline if we're not doing well next year
iamshack
This is dreadfully painful... And I actually enjoy Rios...and Alexei...but I think I am ready to turn the page on this entire group. Edited July 31, 2013 by iamshack

He's a good player that will have value at the next deadline if we're not doing well next year I don't think it would be dumb at all. If some team wants to take on his 12.5 mil, the Sox can lose games with or without him.
