Soxfest
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) There is undeniably an attitude problem with this team. It isn't the whole problem, there have been injuries, bad luck, aging, young players not taking steps forward, but also attitude. It has not felt like many players on this team cared about the results of games for much of the season. I have felt all year some veterans are too comfortable and are not held accountable for anything. This has created a attitude that cannot be repeated in 2014. Rios is a part of the problem and solution. Edited July 31, 2013 by Soxfest

Frank_Thomas
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:25 PM) Doug Padilla @ESPNChiSox 18m Rios on not being moved at deadline: "I'm cool staying here. I like this place." Of course you are Alex, you've always been "cool" with half ass'n it and looks like the Sox are "cool" with it to. God forbid you have a desire to join a pennant race and try to win a World Series. There's the attitude right there, when PV was asked he wanted a chance to pitch for the playoffs and a ring. I really really dispise this guy
TaylorStSox
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) A writer said they were "too nice". That could be true. I think they miss AJ, or at least someone like AJ. I know, AJ was on the 2007 team, but this team has more ability than that. I think they are missing an agitator. I get the sense that the team really hated AJ. I get that from Reed plunking him at the first opportunity and JP and MB not wanting to pitch with him. Maybe their dislike for him rallied other guys. Princess Dye
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) Alex Rios might be my least favorite Sox player with some talent ever. This quote from him (that you're responding to... 'im cool with this place') is a perfect example of something that bothers me. Why is what he said so immediately awful? Rios is not that different from the average MLB douchebag. That kind of primadonna is in every clubhouse. If we wanted all these guys to be great guys, the purging of assholes would be a far larger project leaguewide than the dumping of Alex Rios. And really the list of bad things on Rios' history is not particularly long. If we want to dump Rios to start anew, fine. But just based on the reactions here over Rios ...over the years.............. give me the douchey guy who has at least some prayer of an 800 OPS than the choir boys here who dont Edited July 31, 2013 by Jose Paniagua

Rowand44
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 03:28 PM) More like an Incomplete if you ask me. This is the correct answer. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to move Alex for the right package but who knows what other teams were offering. At least we have a new starting of for next year and lets see how we reinvest the Peavy money before we give this deadline a grade.
greg775
QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:08 PM) Glad its over now so Rios can get this off his mind and continue to work Oh well. We agree to disagree. I respect the fact you love Rios as much as I despise him. My take on the trade deadline is a.) management told Hahn, 'You will not give money to teams to take ANY of our players. We will not pay our players to play somewhere else,' so that IMO probably 'hindered' Hahn a bit. b.) my opinion is the Peavy trade was a good trade, pretty fair return for Peavy. I feel Hahn in his first go-round is fully invested in the White Sox and didn't want to simply dump players having s***ty years for a horrific return. Mite set a bad precedent. For example, dumping a viable shortstop in Lexi for 2-3 nobody prospects would not be smart. I am thinking Hahn didn't want it known he's an 'easy mark' as a GM and he's not going to make trades that he feels are lopsided for the other team in any way. I am thinking he could have dumped Rios to the Yankees or Pirates or somebody had he paid half or more of the salary (probably more) and received some lousy prospect(s) - 2-3 warm bodies might be a way to put it - in return. But he's putting his foot down for the long haul showing he's not a GM who just throws players out the door. He wants something good in return even if the said players are sucking balls this season. Think about it, he could have traded several disappointing players. He didn't. My guess is because he was handicapped in not being able to send any money to those teams and the fact he was offered NON-prospects, not viable prospects, in return. Hahn is no easy mark for other GMs, even when it is debatable how good our trade chips are (were).
2nd_city_saint787
Shocked Texas didn't pick up a bat...Is the waiver period all of August?? I can still see something happening there. I would hope either Rios or Dunn get claimed. I'm cool with leaving Garcia in the minors the rest of the year but would be pretty bummed if he's not in the lineup next season. I suppose if neither go during the waiver period or in the offseason then we COULD be looking at a Garcia-De Aza-Rios OF with Dunn and Tank at 1B/DH. Players can be put on waivers at any time and traded any time afterwards if they pass all the way through. But, a player must be on a team's 40 man roster on September 1st to be able to participate in the postseason for that team, UNLESS that team suffers an injury during september from someone on the 40 man roster. I don't think Dunn would be claimed but I wouldn't be stunned if Rios was, particularly after the suspensions come through.

Buehrle>Wood
I dont know I think a C is a fair grade if you're grading the deadline alone. The Peavy deal certainly didn't wow anyone but it was still decent to good. Nothing else of note. I'd give the Red Sox an A+, the Cubs a B, the Tigers a D+, the Pirates a D, and the Rangers a F. PS: espn david.schoenfield Fans of every team think their prospects are better than any other team's. Except the White Sox. Lol so true.
