Vance Law
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:08 PM) De Aza doesn't have the offense to play left. Yea, he's passable when we rebuild, but when your corners have no power, your deficient. De Aza would be #8 in OPS for all left fielders this year if that's where he was playing. He has a higher OPS than our current left fielder and our current right fielder (who presumably do have the offense to play those corners?). Y2Jimmy0
QUOTE (HeGone7 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) I understand I am likely in the minority here but this is a failure in my eyes on Hahn and the Sox. I am all for getting a fair deal, and that may not be "the best deal", but you cannot fall on your face as we did. 2nd to last in baseball, big contracts on books and players clogging positions you hoped to clear for young guys to audition. I just can't fathom that of all the years we see major players moving for major prospects, this is the year they do not. There is still time to deal some guys in August, and the offseason obviously, but in my eyes things have delayed our recovery time. I get we didn't want garbage or a guy just to have one, but creativity, as we saw with Boston is key in these situations. I can't help but be grossly disappointed and maybe that disappointment is being channeled incorrectly onto Hahn, but where else do we put the blame? Their big contracts aren't killing them though. Next Year's Commitments: Danks $15,750,000, Dunn $15 mil, Rios $13 mil, Ramirez $9.5 mil, Keppinger $4 mil, Sale $3.5 mil, and Lindstrom's $400k buyout. I wanted Rios and Ramirez gone as bad as anyone else but the contracts are definitely not killing the White Sox. That's a total of $60, 4000,000 not including art guys and guys on cost controlled deals. A lot of financial flexibility.

DirtySox
QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:47 PM) Archie...I'd rather have the potential impact bat in Garcia. ... You'd rather have Garcia then the top pitching prospect in all of baseball with top of the rotation potential to slot along side Chris Sale? I'm not on WSI by mistake am I? 2nd_city_saint787
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 04:50 PM) Um Archie is the top pitching prospect in all of baseball. With that said, I am almost positive there is no chance he was available. I get that but at some point this team needs to start bringing in bats and Avisail Garcia is a good place to start. We've seen what good a good pitching staff behind this offense will do and it isn't pretty. Maybe it's just my raging boner for Garcia that is obstructing my thought process though. Any player that has been taken under Miguel Cabreras wings is a player I want.

If you're looking at a prospect list, yes. If you're looking at what we need I would value Garcia more than Bradley. I may be alone on that. GreenSox
Peavy wasn't going to bring an elite prospect...at least not one that most teams think is elite. But the Sox love Garcia and value him higher than most other teams would....they overlook or hold lower value on things (like walking and not striking out) that other teams don't overlook. They probably could have gotten a prospect that had a higher consensus rating, although not elite.

We should have moved him His defense is the reason for his .1 WAR, further so if that is position adjusted. That's making the argument for why he should be in LF. That's not changing they bring in a strong manager with a lot of cred who believed differently to change the culture. (but they won't do that as long as Ken Williams is around). That's not what I said. I said that Guillen and Sox management didn't/don't value walks and plate discipline like other teams do, as per the personnel for the last decade. They haven't brought in a strong manager to change that culture and likely won't anytime soon.

Chisoxfn
I fully expect there to be some rumors related to Ramirez and Rios during the waiver process and as a result of such I'm going to leave trade winds open. I fully expect the Sox will make another deal during the waiver period (it might just be Lindstrom) but I expect another move.
