NorthSideSox72
We are reaching the time of year for FS and other sites/blogs to publish new top prospect lists, so this is a good discussion. I think slotting the OF's into specific positions is probably silly though - those guys move around a lot.
witesoxfan
I agree with slotting the outfield. In fact, everything I've read suggests that Thompson will stay in CF and Hawkins will move over to RF.
BigEdWalsh
LF is pretty sorry, that's for sure.
Ross
Wilkins and Ravelo should be ahead of Black, IMO.
southsider2k5
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 04:22 PM) LF is pretty sorry, that's for sure. LF is another position that is made up of guys who couldn't play another position. You don't breed and develop LF's. You develop RF and CF, and if they fail, they become LF. QuickJones81
I would probably swap Black and Wilkins. I would think Ortiz, Jaye, or Hansen may slip past Rienzo, and would wait a bit before placing Mitchell so high. I would put Vance in the mix at RP as well. Bruce_Blixton
Pretty solid list, I agree with the previous posters suggesting flipping Wilkins and Black and I would include Morel at #1 in the 3B section along with Basto at #3 instead of listing him under SS. Other than that, I'd say that's a pretty accurate assessment of our top prospects. The big question is whether T. Thompson or Hawkins rates higher? winninguglyin83
in other words, we'd better trade for some prospects because the only guys on that list who might possibly help next season are Phegley and (maybe) Thompson. We're a long way away in the infield.
Dizzy Sox
Micah Johnson is having one of the best offensive seasons in the entire minor leagues...I can't see how he doesn't rate ahead of Sanchez, and in fact I would put him behind only E. Johnson, Hawkins, Thompson, Anderson, and perhaps now Zapata.

NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 11:57 PM) Yeah, he's quite old for his level. I wouldn't say that... but he's not young for it either. 22 in A ball is about right, development-wise. In any case I agree he shouldn't be as far up as some are discussing him. Much more 10-20 range in the system than top 10, at this point.
witesoxfan
I think all this year has verified for us is that Johnson can hang. Next year is going to be far more important. He's put up better numbers at an older age and a lower level than Brandon Short. Short has become a non-prospect.

Injuries, and the fact that's just not ever going to be a true power hitter, really derailed his prospect status.

caulfield12
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 10:39 AM) That, and his .714 OPS in AA. You just had the feeling Short was more likely to end up as a 4th/5th outfielder if everything broke his way. He did have that one season where he was absolutely on fire batting average-wise. Wasn't he even the 9th or 10th prospect in our system one year?
