I hope we have scouts at the Kannapolis game, as some big time prospects for the Pirates are involved in this game.

Ravelo with a walk.

He's about the most exciting hitter right now in our entire system, in terms of being a "pure" hitter.

Power has been coming around the last week, too. Still don't think he'll get to 10 homers, but progress.

Curley and Farrell have been playing well this season but neither are true prospects...at least yet.

Every year, there's someone that this board tries to talk up as possibly being a prospect even though they're far too old for their level. Typically, that person is long gone within a year or two.

CJ Retherford? David Cook?

Farrell actually made the Carolina League All-Star team.

Myles Jaye is on the mound.

Lenny Dykstra's son is up. Wonder if his dad is still in prison for financial fraud? Bunt single.

Jaye loaded the bases with no outs but got a DP ball....DeMichele (DeMichael is how it's pronounced) to Johnson to first. 1-0.

DeMichele is a MESS at SS. That transition's not going well, as they made room for Micah Johnson. 9 errors in 11 games at that spot so far.

Error leads to run #2 for Potomac as the throw went into the stands.

Micah Johnson with an excellent diving stop and throw to end the inning.

As bad as the major league team has been, some of the Sox top hitting prospects are making this season an even bigger disaster. Mitchell is probably close to done. Sanchez has been pretty bad. Keenan Walker a disaster. Hawkins obviously was in over his head, and is very youngbut has anyone ever had as tough of time as him making contact and then gone on and become a productive major leaguer. Trace Thompson jhas had flashes, but nothing seems to indicate he is a sure thing either. As caulfield would write....sigh.

Johnson and Johnson are the only main bright spots from the farm this year (besides for Phegley). In all, I fully expect the Sox to be in the bottom 5 for farm systems again unless they make some big time trades coming up.

If Phegley becomes a productive hitter for the big league club, this is a banner year for the system. That will be pretty much one more productive hitter than it's given us the past five years

The aspect you keep overlooking with Ravelo is his 17 doubles in 181 ABs. That's the main reason for his .486 SLG, which would qualify for 5th overall in the Carolina Leauge if he had enough ABs. The hope with Ravelo is that some of that gap power will turn into HR power as his body matures over time.

mark appel has been promoted from Tri-City to Quad Cities. so at the very least, he has gained a city.

Have to check the schedule and see if I can give a scouting report.

I'm here in the Quad Cities through Sunday afternoon, then leaving the country.

I'm not going to overlook it anymore because it would be too depressing not to have anyone to cheer for...besides Micah Johnson and Josh Phegley.

Tim Anderson, too. Barnum.

Walker has been too aggressively promoted. Sometimes the White Sox push guys to age appropriate levels while (I assume) fully knowing that they don't have the track record to warrant being there. There is some chance that Walker catches up age-wise and becomes a contributor, but it will wind up being more like Jordan Danks, who needed to repeat AAA until he became a hair on the older side for that level.

Danks is another guy where you can look at his year-by-year stats and find yourself thinking, "huh? why did they send him to AAA so fast?"

He was 23 when he first appeared in AAA. That isn't out of line at all.

I'm talking about production. My whole post was about how they move guys at appropriate age over appropriate production

Right-handed pitcher Mark Appel, the No. 1 overall pick by the Houston Astros in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, will join the Quad Cities River Bandits Wednesday before their six-game home stand at Modern Woodmen Park, the Astros announced on Tuesday. With 2012 No. 1 overall pick Carlos Correa, the River Bandits are set to become the first team in Minor League Baseball history with consecutive No. 1 overall picks on the same roster.

The Houston Astros selected Appel out of Stanford University with the top pick of the draft on June 6. He signed with the Astros and was introduced at a press conference June 19 at Minute Maid Park. Appel made his professional debut July 5 with the short-season Class-A Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League. In two starts July 5 and July 9, Appel pitched five total innings, allowed six hits, two earned runs and no walks while striking out six batters.

Looks like he will start the 13th or 14th. If it's Saturday the 13th, I'll get to see him pitch.

The River Bandits open their six-game homestand at 7 p.m. Wednesday against the Bowling Green Hot Rods at Modern Woodmen Park. Appel is scheduled to make his first River Bandits start on Sunday, July 14, at 5 p.m. against the Dayton Dragons.

Damn. Guess not. Missed it by a day.

Nice game for Tim Anderson tonight. That Bristol offense is awful.

Anderson's been really hot but his OBP is 30 points higher than his SLG percentage.

That said, the offensive results, overall, have been quite encouraging considering the aggressive placement.
