On a good team, I think he's more like a 4/5. Hard to imagine him having an ERA in the 3.5-3.7 range for another year or so.

Why?

His fastball velocity is almost already recovered and frankly his offspeed stuff has been as good or better than before the surgery in some games.

The things missing are consistency with the offspeed and consistent control. Those will take, obviously, innings to get back.

We keep saying so-and-so is a 3/4/5 on a mythical "good" team. The John Danks of 2008-2011 is not as poor as 3 on many teams, including some good ones. What we have now is to be seen, but I'm extremely encouraged.

Just based on the history of pitchers fully recovering from shoulder surgery. With that said, his stuff is so much better than we thought it would be heading into the year. His main flaw has always been his lack of command.

I think his main flaw has always been that he never had a pure strike out pitch other than the changeup. That's the reason why he never took that last step.
