Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 11:08 PM) I wonder where Jacobs would have ranked heading into the season if he was on the White Sox? Top 10, probably outside the top 5.
Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 03:05 AM) This is what a Boston fan said on another board: "Hamate bone injury derailed him last year, he was starting to hit much better this year. Last 11 games, hit .410/.510/.718 with 6 doubles and 2 HR Since May 21, .291/.390/.517 with 13 2b and 7 HR in 43 games This does not include last night's game, his AA debut, where he went 2-3 with a 3B." He has been hitting well for the last 2 months. It'll be interesting where he'll be placed. I would assume AA right? What's our outfield there, Walker, Mitchell, Thompson? I guess we want all those guys getting at bats so perhaps some reshuffling.
GGajewski18
Anybody, that is complaining about this deal, what did you expect? Everyone wanted Thornton out of here and has been on the downside of his career as of late. Getting Boston's 11th rated prospect according to mlb.com is pretty good value. He's 22 in AA, has very high offensive potential while his defense is a work in progress. I like it.
fathom
10:00pm: The White Sox are sending a six-figure payment to Boston, meaning that the Red Sox will pick up the bulk of the $3.5MM owed to Thornton, tweets Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Just off of reading the prospect descriptions, sounds a lot like Thompson. High power, tons of potential, athletic.
Dick Allen
Who will be the lefty in the pen the rest of the year? Is Veal comimg back? I am a big Thornton fan, but this is what happens when you play like this. It is a lottery ticket. I wonder whose ABs in Birmingham where I assume he will be sent, Jacobs will be taking. Send him back to LSU and see if Les Miles needs a receiver with one year of eligibility. Buddy Bell has lost all credibility with me by continuing to tout Mitchell. It ain't happening. caulfield12
QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 12, 2013 -> 09:20 PM) Do you mean Charlotte or Winston-Salem for Mitchell? Back to AAA, probably. Would rather keep Thompson in CF, that's where he projects to have the most value at the major league level, and Walker's more of a corner guy (RF/LF). You have to defer to the idea of Thompson at the moment being the better prospect, too. It is ironic after drafting four toolsy outfielders that we needed yet another. WHO exactly made this trade? At first I thought we traded for the NY Giants' running back, haha. Edited July 13, 2013 by caulfield12

Great value in my opinion. I know were in the minority, but what do people expect? We weren't getting a top 5 prospect. This kid has tons of offensive potential. Why not take the risk. flavum
Jacobs was pulled in the 3rd inning in a game that is now in the 13th inning. He's known for a while.
